Hamilton keeping tabs

Hamilton said he and Fulmer have talked at length about what realistic expectations should be at Tennessee.
"I know people are going to start charting the course of how many we've had since when, and I realize this league is very cyclical, but I think it's reasonable to expect a couple of SEC championships over a 10-year period of time and be in the SEC Championship Game four times," Hamilton said.

As the article says, using the last 10 years, we have met that. But, over the next two years, that won't be true unless we get back to the SEC title game the next two years. It sounded like Hamilton may make a change if we're not back in Atlanta very soon.

This is line the sand. Now lets see if he sticks to his guns. Hopefully this will be non issue next year.

Please explain.

he sort of just talks around the issue. he should just say we are no where close to being back to the top and phil better earn his money. instead it sounds like he will tolerate phil as long as he wins 10 games a year.

what part of he didn't do anything and thinks we are going in the right direction do you not understand. this is campus politics at its finest. the only reason he made these statements is that most volfans have had enough. he is just trying to quell the rebellion.:hi:

The problem with that type of "technical" evaluation -- technically he has won 2 and played in 4 in the LAST 10 years -- is that you have the opposite stance two years from now. In other words, if one relies on the technicality and not the clear direction of the program, then in two years you'd have to fire him because he no would longer meet the technical definition.

There is another aspect to this "championship" measurement factor...what are you usually doing. It's really not OK, hypothetically, to win 2 SECC every 10 years and go, say, 7-5 the rest of the time. It would be hard to do, but...

So, if you take into account that, not only has he not won (maybe the next 2 yrs.), but that they have been unranked or nearly unranked 4 of the last 6 years (and looked bad doing it), have a losing record against ranked teams, then I'd say he needs to ramp it up pretty quick.

With that said, the SEC is tough right now, and some slide years are expected. Perhaps he can right the ship enough to get us into a respectable mix. But he strikes most non-partisans as a very mediocre game day coach, which makes talent a premium for him going forward.
