High maintenance women are like high maintenance sports cars. They're lots of fun when you're out on the town together, but for every hour of showing off, there are another 10 spent on upkeep and repair behind the scenes.
After hours of polishing the headlights in your garage, you might ask yourself is this really worth it, just for a couple of rides?
Generally speaking, high maintenance women are those who need many things (money, material goods, affection) to be happy.
These women love dressing up whenever possible, and are obsessed with all aspects of their personal appearance and grooming in general. This almost obsessive attention to detail usually extends beyond their person, to their homes or apartments, their pets, and yes, even their men.
In addition, they tend to be perfectionists, overachievers, self centered, and a bit vain.

I agree somewhat with OE, but I think you are crossing the fine line on part of it.
Yeah spending every moment to look at yourself and making sure everything in place and making that priority makes someone high maintenance.
Someone who spends hours of the day looking at the latest fashion and having to have the labels.
And OE, I'm far from maintenance on your entire post. And I think you cross the line because in the other thread you base a joke on me always being right with me liking to look nice as high maintenance. Every person in their right mind should want to look nice, but spending hours and checking yourself every hour is just crazy. I am the kind of girl that gets ready in the morning and wears something that I feel that makes me look good, and head out the door. Not once during the day do I ever check my hair or makeup, I know I look good regardless.k:
I am high maintenance being anal retentive and a clean neat freak.
It is a matter of accepting who you are.
A woman who orders complicated, multi-ingredient, bartender-annoying drinks in a crowded bar is always unacceptably high-maintenance. Turn on your heel and run.

To me it is an emotional thing rather than materialistic. High-maintenace women are no different from high-maintenace men. They are both typically insecure and needy. They lack self love, self respect and self confidence so they need someone to provide it for them.
