Can anyone shed any light on why there has been no talk of Malzahn as a candidate? It sounds as if there is a good possibility he will not be back at Auburn and talk of him being a target for Arkansas. I believe him to be a very good coach.

He’s a very good coach I would def take him at UT, but I think he likely ends up at Arkansas next season.

Malzahn is an Arkansas native. He would only take that job if he were to leave the Plains. If he somehow wins the Iron Bowl this week, he'll get a serious extension out of it.

Technically, Gus is competing for a national championship. Difficult path, but if Auburn beats Alabama, and then beats UGA a 2nd time, there's no way it's getting left out of the playoff.

Malzahn is underrated as a coach. Biggest problem is that Auburn plays 2nd fiddle to Alabama inside Alabama, which has made Malzahn's path to getting top classes much more difficult. I do think he'd have more success in Knoxville than Auburn, but he has had 3 subpar seasons out of 5 at Auburn, so I have less confidence about him than I have about someone like Dan Mullen, who has overachieved 7 out of 9 seasons at Miss State, and has been routinely doing well with a huge talent disparity. Feel like Tennessee is a slightly better situation than Auburn right now, but honestly, that probably means no more than a +0.5 to +1.0 game difference.

Though, I also think Malzahn would be a bit foolish to leave Auburn now that Jarrett Stidham is playing well and has 2 years of eligibility left.

Close losses to Clemson and LSU. Win or lose in iron bowl, he'll be at Auburn next year.

South Alabama beat Mullen last year.

I don’t know why Malzahn would leave. He’s done great at Auburn and he is pretty close to winning a championship there.

If he loses to Bama, which he will, they will be talking of firing him again. Auburn is not like UT and accepts a 9-3 season.

Gus Malzahn would be in the unemployment line with Butch if not for lucking out with the Kevin Steele hire.

He is the most overrated coach in the country.

Auburn fans DO NOT WANT HIM. My Auburn fan friends are hoping like hell he goes to Arkansas.

He only worries about the offense, and all but one of his offenses have been completely pedestrian.

He's a world better than Butch, obviously. But dude is just inside the top 30 coaches in the country.

Talked to a friend who knows a parent of a player on the team. I wont say who the player is but there are unhappy folks there even though they are winning. I am sure it goes on at every school but players feel like they are being lied to. This player was told he was going to get playing time but the coaches made a call to do some injections on the starter and played them in front of someone that was not hurt. Backup voiced concerns about being told he was going to play and he has not seen the field since. Also said that after the Arkansas game Malzahn didn't travel back with the team, may be nothing but he stayed in Arkansas for a bit. I take it as the feeling on the team is that there is a good chance he is gone.

Take it for what its worth but this person wouldn't lie about it and he fully trusted the parent he got the information from.

I don't think he wants the Arkansas job. Not a lot of talent there. He'd be better off to hold out for a better opportunity.

The Hogs are offering him a boatload of $$$ and he is big buddies with their prospective new AD. He and his family HATE living on the Plains of Auburn due to the treatment of his family. The wife of one of my former associate pastors saw his wife looking at houses near Hogville with a realtor a couple of weeks ago. Talk within the Hog's ADept is that unless he wins the NC with Auburn, he will be their next HC. That is coming from one of the Hog's billionaire boosters who is paying Bielema's buyout. However, IF Auburn should beat BAMA and UGA, that table clears very quickly due to extensions, bonuses, and other $$$ considerations.

I think it’s funny that a recruit can lie all day to coaches about where they are going to school, take visits, and commit, and who they’ve talked to. Yet if a coach says he will get a player playing time and doesn’t follow through then the player is suddenly outraged.

There is a difference between a mature adult leader making millions not being upfront with those he leads than a 17 year changing his mind on which college he wants to attend.

And a coach owes nothing to an individual player in terms of past promises if it doesn’t help the team to make good on those promises.

BTW, the coach’s paycheck is irrelevant

I hear he wants to go back to Arky. His family is there. Even though he knows Auburn is the better job. Maybe less stress. Every time they lose a game, underdog or not, it is fire Malzahn! Gets old I guess.
