Gun control debate (merged)

Obviously someone on my Ignore List is posting in here, based on what appears to be the responses I can read. Gotta say, when I put a handful of VN trolls on ignore, life, and VN, got better immediately. No point in reading or responding to them; zebra can't change its' stripes. Have fun with it.

Grand is okay. Just taking a sabbatical. He's probably reading, just not posting. I understand completely. Every now and then I need a break from all the noise, too.

Facts don't lie. Gun owners are at greater risk of gun violence than those who don't own. I will never own a gun, which means neither I nor my spouse will shoot each other, commit suicide via a gun, accidentally shoot somebody, etc.
Commit suicide? The only way to do that is by gun? You going to get rid of your car so you don't drive it off a bridge or cliff?

You will never hear of a gun deaths at my hands. Guarantee that. And my family is safer by not having a gun in the house

So you are a fortune teller now that knows the path you and your family will travel down without being able to control events in the future ? I love listening to people “ Guarantee “ future actions or non actions . Little experiment of options and choices ... an armed intruder breaks into your home at night while you sleep , rounds you and your family up in a room and declares that he is going to kill you and all your family just for fun to see if he can get away with it . He is distracted by a family member , you take the opportunity to wrestle the gun away from him and call 911 . While waiting with the gun pointed at him for the cops , you see him grab another pistol from his waist and without saying a word fires at your family more than once but misses them ( trying to do what he declared he would from the start ) what is your next action ? Ready , Set ...GO !

How trite, trading one risk for another and calling for a "factual" victory. How many of, who the hell knows how many examples I've posted by now (nevermind the many, many, MANY that haven't been cited) people who used firearms defensively would give a rat's rotting rectum about your take on the matter. Here's two groups.

Group A
Man gets 20 years in Naperville home invasion stabbing case
http://www.kirklandreporter.com/news/suspect-arrested-after-home-invasion-stabbing-in-kirkland/
Woman stabbed to death in Carlsbad home invasion, two suspects arrested
Man Charged in Brutal Sleepy Hollow Home Invasion
Philly man guilty in deadly home invasion that killed South Jersey father of three

Group B
Suspect shot in attempted home invasion in Parkway Village
Home invaders beat man, and his daughters hid — but son got a gun, Texas cops say
PD: Homeowner shoots, kills intruder in Phoenix home invasion
Texas homeowner fatally shoots 3, injuries 2 more during early morning home invasion: report
Oklahoma home invasion: 3 killed by resident, authorities say - CNN

Those without swords can still die upon them. You want to expose yourself to being in Group A by limiting what you see as an in home weapons risk and hope the universe's largesse works out for you? Fine by me, your call. There are plenty of others that accept that risk (and there is MUCH more control over in house inanimate objects than what other outside forces might do to you and yours) in the event the fecal matter impacts the rapidly rotating blades, Group B.

There really isn't an issue with what you choose to do in your home. Just be sure to keep your hoplophobic tucas out of rights of others to be in that Group B.

DTH, going back to your Col. Cooper post, you've hit on something.

As a society, men have largely forgotten how to be men. You, me, and several others on this board are outliers. We have not forgotten how we were raised; the face of our father; or the faith in our Father. We're men. And we are a distinct minority these days. Shame. History recalls when the worst mistake you could make was to get into a fight with America, because we were sending our men. And they always came home victorious. Modern day Spartans, us.

Your fascination with all things wheelguns is fun to watch. Matching the gun to the holster, and those lovely big, long cartridges they love to eat. I wish I could afford to do the same. For me, it's the 1911 platform. Old, simple, and lethal. Like Clint Eastwood. It won't win any beauty contests, but it won't lose many fights.

Disclaimer: I own a Glock. But I only own one, and it's a .45, and it too is very simple and lethal. The Glock will never replace the 1911, but it has earned its' place as a simple gun that you can bet your life on.

Same with my AR's. I only have two, which would probably put me in the "also ran" category here. One set up for Patrol / HD work, and the other with a scope for longer range, if I ever need it. Grand Vol, my favorite Okie, was huge in getting me to tune those clunky old Colts into the best that they could be. I'm not in Daniel Defense land, but I'm also not out 6 grand for 2 rifles. What I have will serve me well in a fight, which is all I need.

I love seeing and reading about the beautiful guns and fun things that happen here. I enjoy sitting around the "internet campfire", and swapping tales with men. We might not agree on everything, but we handle it like men. As it should be.

And rightfully so.

I agree with a lot of what you say. I see it a lot, working in a steel mill. I don’t think things are quite as dire as some make out. Young folks just have their own way of things. Liken it to the turn from revolvers to autos, some thought the younger guys crazy for going with the sig p226, beretta or hi power because you can’t beat the reliability of a good wheel gun. (Unless you actually shoot them a lot and find their warts) point being, it turned out fine. Will this younger generation? We’ve got 18 year olds who have never known America in peace time. That strikes me as sad on so many levels. I grew up reading Elmer Keith and Skeeter Skeleton as well as Col. Cooper. I really miss those guys when I happen to pick up a gun magazine these days. Nobody tells stories anymore. These younger guys are finding their way, I think we will be fine. Cheers

So you admit your inability to responsibly own a gun. I guess your family is safer. My family is safer for owning them. Don't break in my house though, I'd hate to have a gun death on my hands.

wow, speaking for the spouse there, how very pro-women's rights of you.

also you not owning a gun, doesn't remove the possibility of any of those happening.

I bet an AR in 9mm would blow his mind.

Just another attempt to vilify the AR by any and all means, including an episode of "Terminal Ballistics for Idiots".

Here's some ballistics gel for the 30-30...you know, the cartridge that came out in 1895 for great grandpa's deer rifle.
