Guitar Shots to the Head: Take me to the Circus

Lex. the start of that article is so great--and my hope is that the search ends with any of your first three: Gruden, Davis, or Kiffin.

With Leach... you're making me do more homework. There's only one good season there and it is the current one. Every now and then, every dog gets a bone. Is this one, Leach's? I can't see major $$$ or many years for that hire. He would be a huge risk for Hamilton.

Great read... as always!

Nice read Lex. I agree with the line of succession on the coaching list, but my gut tells me while Davis is a good football coach he'd fit in Knoxville about as well as an expansion NHL team...it's great but not our style. My 1st choice is Gruden, but we'll probably get Kiffen.

Well Leach is somewhat proven with the work he did with Tim Couch when Leach was the OC for Kentucky. I think they had the most offensive production ever in the SEC if I am not mistaken. He just did not have that great of a team to win it all with. I think Leach is a little bit of a nut case but maybe that is what we need, to break away from the Norm.

I'll say this for Leach being the head coach. It would definitely be different.

Different can be good and different can be bad. I am not convinced which it would be. I think that deep down I am a Kiffinite.

Good read. For all of those Leach haters out there, he did have the number one offense in the SEC @ Kentucky for a couple of years so it can work in this conference.

"The zoo is a great place to visit with your kids, but I have always preferred the circus."

My favorite line in the article. Thanks Lex. It would be nice to see some O next season.

Just being reported on the raido here in CLT.........Jimmy sexton has apparently been officially contacted about Butch DAvis going to UT for the HC job. It's being reported that Davis does want a more lucrative contract as well as rennovations to the stadium as well as other facilities.

parlay UT job for more money or realistic that he's considering moving to a football first school?

there's a lot of UNC fans here that are scared to death. Problme for them is, there's not enough of them to out weigh the portion of the fan base that could care less until Roy's boys show up for bball.

True.... great post Jake!

UT is a much better fit for what Davis wants to accomplish. He's overkill for what the Heels want in a football coach. If we don't get him this year, a major program will take him away from UNC at some point. It's evident to anyone who has ever been to both a football and a basketball game at Chapel Hill. One is purely an opportunity to socialize.

Finally, someone who seems to feel exactly the way I do about Leach. I think the detractors should get over the fact that he "doesn't fit" at UT. This guy is a star in the making, all he needs is the right talent and ability to pick up great recruits.

Look at Leach's bio.

COD is a community college. Pori is in Finland. This guy has been working hard his entire career to get where he is. Leach has truly paid his dues in a big way. I think he would be very successful at Tennessee.

And he runs a "balanced offense"... he said he throws it to everyone, even tackle-eligibles. Great sense of humor.

Nice read Lex. This is the first time I have commented on one of your blogs, but I have enjoyed all of them. Keep 'em coming.

Look at Leach's bio.

2000 Galleryfurniture.com East Carolina L 27–40
2001 Alamo Bowl Iowa L 16–19
2002 Tangerine Clemson W 55–15
2003 Houston Navy W 38–14
2004 Holiday California W 45–31
2005 Cotton Alabama L 13–10
2006 Insight Bowl Minnesota W 44–41OT
2007 Gator Bowl Virginia W 31–28

If this was UT's postseason bio, would you be happy with it?

I have the same reservations about Leach. He's been an 8-win coach for quite a while. I think he would do better than that at Tennessee though. But, I'm starting to warm up to Brian Kelly.

There is no doubt is offense would work in this conference. I also have confidence in Leach's ability to embrace the magnitude of the job.

There was a reason that Finebaum called Hal Mumme mop head. He knew how to manage an offense, but could do very little beyond that. Leach, while he may be a little crazy, would be intelligent enough to hire the right people and manage the program well.

Go to google or any search engine of your choice and try to find former TT football players in the NFL. I have searched for players in the tenure while Leach has been HC and for someone who is so "good" on offense he sure does not place players in the NFL. The most successful player has been Wes Wexler a posession receiver for the Patriots. I could only find 7 players in 9 years. Correct me if I am wrong but you will not get highly touted recruits to come play in college if the HC is not known for producing NFL players. If Leach came to UT he would not have the best recruits lining up to play because we are the Vols not the Red Raiders. There is no doubt Harrell and Crabtree will be in the NFL so I will give 9 players in 9 years. Fulmer placed 20 players in the same time frame that start for teams in the NFL. The good recruits we will lose to the universities with the good recruiters because all they will have to say is Come play for Coach Meyer,Saban,Richt,Miles we place (players) in the NFL every year.
