Guitar Shots to the Head: Not so bold predictions

I love the part about special teams not giving up any TDs this season. That will be a refreshing change from the last 10 years.

I would like some more bold predictions.

I think Teague or Oku or Richardson will return a punt for a TD this year. We have more speed. I also think we will have lots more touchbacks this year.

I think we beat UCLA by 14 or more.

I predict Lex will wake up on a Gameday in Knoxville with a vicious hangover, courtesy of an evening at the DTG&B.

What to expect from special teams: A much improved special teams unit will not surrender any returns for touchdowns this year.

Lex, great read. what makes you feel this way? there hasnt been alot of chatter about STs that i have seen...

I'd be very happy with 8-4 especially given noticeable improvement in areas such as discipline, intensity, line and QB play.

I'm a bit concerned about next years record as the recruiting gaps over the past couple of years will show up big time next year. We'll be forced to play a lot of youngsters on the o-line. I thought the d-line was going to be a huge issue, but it is starting to look like it is stablizing.

Very well written and thoughful. I would take 8-4, but hope for a little better. I disagree on special teams and scoring, we will give 1 up and we will get a couple of our own. Thanks for the insights.

GO VOLS

It will be the JUCO express on the OL for a few years. That is just as well with me. I think it is easily the hardest position to recruit out of highschool.

Auburn (while Gran was the RB/ST coach) beat UF without scoring an offensive TD, thanks to special teams and a stout defense.

That says enough about Gran and his ST coaching abilities to me.

What amazed me was for all the talk about importance of ST at UT we were soooo consistently bad the past several years. ST teams success is about minding lots of little details and desire. There was a great article about Myer and his obsession with ST and it certainly shows with UF performance. ST is so important to Myer that he personally coaches it.

Really glad we have Gran and hope we can keep him awhile.

That's a nice, and refreshingly different, run down on the season. I agree that 8-4 is about right, with somewhere around .500 versus Ole Miss (yeah, I'm not yet sold,) UGa, USC and Auburn, give or take a game, as probable. Florida and Bama should be losses, the rest should be wins, but then that should have been the scenario last year as well.

Thanks for the blog, and good job, as usual:thumbsup:

BTW, I got my new football tickets today, and I'm back on the West side. Take it as a good omen for the season or not, but in my 3 seasons of watching games from the East (I did not attend any home games in '07,) I am 0-4. If the change in perspective doesn't help, I can only look to my wife, whose record in Neyland is abysmal (1-9?) The first game she ever saw in Knoxville was the Jabar Gaffney game, an omen I chose to ignore at the time. I am beginning to think differently. She may only get to come with me to away or neutral games, where the Vols have fared much better with her in the stands.

Of course, my influence over the outcome might not be quite as strong as I'd like to believe, but it is better to err on the side of caution.
