Guitar Greats

I tried to dig up the greatest guitar player thread, but found this one and thought I would add this name to the list if not already on here. Watched the sopranos the other night and reminded me of this very underrated guy. Nils Lofgren should be on the list.

Pat Metheny
Steve Howe
Eric Clapton
Jimi Hendrix
Allen Holdsworth
Michael Hedges
Jeff Beck
Jake Cinniger
George Benson
Lee Ritenour
Adrian Belew
Robert Fripp
Jimmy Page
Robert Johnson

In no particular order

Dude just mentioned Steve Howe from Yes. He wrote some of the most understated and heartaching leads I've ever heard. And when he needed to thrash, he could annihilate it. His style was his alone, as much as any other rock guitarist. Anyone who has listened to Don't Kill the Whale or Close to the Edge, repeatedly, knows exactly what I'm saying.

There's simply no other guitarist like him when it comes to a signature sound on so many different types of guitars.

Howe was Guitar Players Magazine's guitarist of the year from 1975-1980. Six years in a row. That's an award voted on by all other guitarists....his peers. That's all you need to know about his playing. Definitely one of the best of all time

I had the opportunity to meet him a few years ago. A professional and purist of the highest order

Steve Howe was one of the early entries in this thread. There's a good video in here somewhere of him doing some amazing things on a 12-string.

EDIT: Here it is again

Here's another guy that got some early mentions - Phil Keaggy. This is an ebow demonstration that's pretty damn cool.

Worthwhile bump...

He's not in the upper echelon by any means, but here is a great example of a highly underrated guitarist:

I think he is in the upper echelon. He is extremely talented. I just don't really like his style. Not really my kind of music. But he can do anything. I know I've posted this before, but he owns Slash here:

Prince is an incredible guitarist. Probably the best guitarist who also plays everything else really freaking well.

Honorable mention.

If you don't watch it all you are a crybaby puss. That or 15.

There's a lot of great guitarists that I can appreciate their play but just don't care much for the music.

Found him googling a posters avatar. Dude is sick.
