A friend and I are planning a trip to Gainesville this year to see the Florida game. This will be the first away game for both of us. So I was hoping Volnation could give me some tips for away games in general. And a guide to Gainesville in particular. We are both in College so please keep that in mind. (very little money) :)

Get into the stadium in time for the pregame. No matter who we're playing, it's always interesting to see what pregame traditions each team does. Chants, band formations, alumni recognition, and so on. This is one of the many things that makes college ball more enjoyable than pro, in my opinion.

Anyway, Florida's pregame isn't bad. Their band isn't the best in the world, but the whole "you're about to enter the swamp" thing they show on the jumbotron, with a gator peeking out of the water, is kinda neat.

Plus you and your buddy can place a friendly wager on the over/under of jorts you spot.

And extremely fine women on the flip side of that.

Those kind cost money -- the OP said he has very little of that

Uhh no. You find a hot girl in Florida, you approach her and say "I don't live in a trailer'", she will ask "Are you some type of royalty?" or she will ask "Are you the guy that started Wal-Mart?" or she'll ask "Are you like, the President?"

Just shrug and say "sure."

She's yours.

Sound advice for the OP --- hopes he listens to it

Or, "Hi.....I'm Ronnie Van Zant". Well, it still worked in the 70's, anyway.

Park at the mall and ride the shuttle over. Makes the experience much more enjoyable. It's cheap, shuttles run constantly, and you don't have to fight traffic.

Yes, second this.

If you stay out past the schedule, you can always Uber or cab to the car from campus for about 10 bucks.

I've never heard of a UT car getting vandalized there. On campus is another matter.

This is exactly the plan myself and 3 friends plan on using, especially if we take my Suburban. I know personally of other vehicles that have been vandalized in years past...this will be my 1st away game as well

The UT alumni assoc has away game travel but they are quite expensive. They are staying in Ocala at the Hilton with the team then has a bus to the game. it is $445 for 2 people for the package. Can find info on UT Sports website. Also All seasons travel has away game packages much cheaper but they are only providing hotel this year since it is on campus and then you walk to stadium

Thats atleast a 30 minute drive to the stadium.(google maps) Why would the team stay that far away?

First time I was there was 1991. That was also my last time.

May the odds be ever in your favor.

I go to

The University of Tennesseeat Chattanooga

lol Me and my friend both do.

Haha I was gonna say I'm planning on driving down. I go to UT Knoxville and I'm looking for some riding buddies to make it a little cheaper. I've also reserved the hotel in Lake City, just about 30 or 40 minutes north of Gainesville...otherwise hotels are stupid expensive. You interested?

Too many distractions close to campus and it is also safer to be away from all the crazies. One of the band's busses and one of the band's police escorts were vandalized in Gainesville many years ago. The POTS will most likely stay in Jacksonville. They stay in Atlanta for the UGA or Auburn games, Birmingham for Alabama games and New Orleans for LSU games. The travel time is longer but it is safer for the students.

Take Rocco and Luca with you. We are going down there this year to open a big can of whoop azz. They are not going to be in a jovial mood before or after.

I think we're gonna try to stay in Gainesville. I'm not sure about the logistics so far though.
