Apparently it's pickerS, and Spurrier is one of them. Also, apparently the other picker will rep Tennessee well. As someone else said, Butch owned Spurrier. Vols win.
Timing wouldn't have lined up to work as far as the latter (and that might be the bigger issue).
Tennessee would have had to fire Johnny Majors after an 11-1 SEC title season with a Cotton Bowl win over #9/#10 Arkansas and top 5 finish in both polls in 1989. And - taking away any benefits of hindsight - no one at any school would have made that kind of move at that moment in time.
