I dont know if you saw the piece about this group on Real Sports on HBO.
A kid, playing def back, was paralyzed after a hit he made playing high school football. Was awful to watch. You could tell it was a bad bad injury. The kid, Chris Canales, lost the use of his legs.
A year down the road, his father said that Chris was in a deep funk. Depressed and hiding from the world. His dad decided to get him outta the house and take him to a football game, of all places. While at the game, another young man, made a tackle and fell limp right on the field. Thinking that he wanted to do something, Chris decided to go talk to the kid and help him get thru the first days of what was going to be a totally different life.
Needless to say, they have now gone on and grew a little grassroots organization to help these Texas football players. The "fraternity" now has 18 members in the group. 16 outta 18 were def backs.
This story really got to me and wanted to share it with the VolNation. It is a sport we all love, but also know that their is a dangerous side to it.
The organization, gets these kids/young men outta the house and the weekend to go watch football games. I couldnt believe how all they want to do, and still love, is the game of football.
Anyway. long post. I dont hardly ever donate to anything. I am picky. They are going to be getting a Christmas donation from me.
Makes your problems seem petty when you here about how strong these kids are.
