Greatest Vol assistant coach?

George Cafego and Dan Brooks deserve a mention, and a shoutout to Ken Donahue based on the ’86 Sugar Bowl game plan alone. Also, if Larry Lacewell hadn’t left for the Cowboys after only two seasons at UT, he may have ended up as one of the best DCs in school history.
The Sugar Vols had an impressive coaching staff - Majors, Fulmer, Harris, Donahue, Cutcliffe, and Zook.

I avoid any "Greatest" discussions...music, acting, athletics, artists, etc. To me it's pointless (though many enjoy the banter). There is, however one that can't be denied:

Walt, who came to Tennessee because Al Saunders recommended him to Coach Majors when he left UT for the San Diego Chargers after 1982. Saunders and Walt had coached together at Cal-Berkeley in 1977 and they beat UT in Coach Majors first game back.

You’re right. Saunders was the guy that originally brought the concepts.
