Getting ready to watch Whitehaven vs Maryville here. Wife and I were discussing old vols from the state of Tennessee. I hope that our new coach can get back into middle Tennessee. Bama is mopping up using Tennessee high school players.

So my question for discussion is.....who have been the last all-sec caliber Vols players from the city of Knoxville.

Reggie Cobb from early 90's is one.

Knoxville should produce more talent for a city it's size.

That is what I am sitting here thinking.

I'm sure there are a few. We always have 20 from Knoxville on the team. But I drawing a blank on the stars.

Bill Bates
Todd Helton
Safety / punt returner from four years ago who went pro a year early and no one drafted him....can't think of his name.
David Douglas...but I think he was Maryville

What about the kentucky player that is playin for green bay?

He played for Alcoa, and wasn't a great Vol. Randall Cobb.

Chad Pennington from Knoxville but not a vol.

Penn State pulled a running back from Knoxville who was good Leroy something. Harris maybe? I don't have that name quite right.

I think Shawn Summers was Oak Ridge and JJ McKlesky was Karns.

Yeah, I saw Shawn Summers play in High School. He was Oak Ridge.

There was a mountain of a guy named Richard something on that Oak Ridge team. He was 6'8" huge...signed with UT. Turned out to be a bum.

Vols used to get some good players out of North Georgia, as well. I remember Ricky Townsend, "The Barefoot Kicker" was from Dalton, GA. We certainly need a coach who can build relationships with high school coaches, parents, and players throughout the southeast. Battle, Majors, and Fulmer were all very good at that, despite any faults they may have had.

My brother covered sports for the Central paper. I went to the Halls game one time with him. I think Cobb might have been a freshman at the time. I was young so hazy but I want to say they just ran a single wing or single back formation all night and Reggie ran every play.

Why does Knoxville not produce a lot of great players? Coaching? Facilities? Too many republicans who are soft...lol?

Lee Smith from Powell is playing for the Bills now. He was committed at one time. Does that count?

Yeah, I forgot about him. Didn't he play a couple of years for the vols or not?

But I don't think he was all-sec?

We are looking for last vol from knoxville who was first team all-sec in football.

I still think it might be Reggie Cobb...that was 25ish years ago
