the argument could be made that no one in the sec knows how to coach offense.
that might have been true regarding those LSU teams, but isn't true of the conference today. Richt, Spurrier, Meyer, Cutcliffe (maybe). Those are some strong offensive minds. Any conference will be hard pressed to find a better set of 4.

I don't know who's better this year...you know, because it's August and no football has been played...but LSU was better than USC by the end of last season. In fact, they may have been the best or 2nd best team in America at the end of the season.

Because they destroyed an overrated Notre Dame team?

SC vs LSU :banghead2:

Lets see, in the past 5 years vs ranked opponents:
SC is 19-3
LSU is 14-11

LSU has a losing record vs Auburn (2-3) the past 5 years.
SC beat Auburn in 02 and shut them out in 03.

In 05, SC beat Arkansas 70-17, LSU beat Arkansas 19-17.
In 06, SC beat Arkansas 50-14, LSU beat Arkansas 31-36.

Both teams easily beat the Irish in 06.
Both teams crushed U of AZ in 06.
Both teams were fortunate to come from behind and beat my ASU :the_finger: in 05.

LSU crushed Fresno St. in 06 while SC nearly lost in 05.
In 04, SC beat OSU by 8 while LSU luckily won in OT.

SC has proven they are better than Auburn and Arkansas, so it seems that if SC replaced LSU in the SEC West they would be playing for the SEC championship every year.

Could LSU have gone 37-4 the past 5 years in the Pac-10? I don't think so.

Nice post. Those trying to argue LSU is better than USC is almost the same as Pac10 fans saying the Pac10 is better than the SEC.

How to stop one. Also, how to recognize a coordinator who knows how to run one.

Apparently coach Satan was in Miami to take in some golf cause he sure didn't do much of what you describe. I hope his coaching abilities at Bama show he just had great personnel at LSU, and fall more in line with his mediocrity at Michigan State and the Phins.

agreed. any defensive genius out there understands offensive football as well as any O-coordinator. O guys that are great today probably have a bit more creativity in them, but the guys on D are catching up.

All this talk about hoping other teams don't reach their potential. Why not field a confident Vol team and staff that could roll anyone they play?

Don't kid yourself about Saban. If he sticks around Bama long enough, he will put LSU back in the also ran pile, and he will drag Tuberville down with them.

You accentuate the positive and thats great, thats how it should be, the Volunteers rolling over other great teams. The last 10 years of past performance have caused me to be cynical I guess. You may be right about his ability, we'll see.
