For those who enjoy books, here is an intriguing passage:
Returning to the British lines, however, there was no mistaking the German bullet that sliced through Meinertzhagen's sun helmet when an askari, ignorant of flags of truce, took a pot shot at him from close range. Instantly Meinertzhagen jammed the flag and its pole into the askari's stomach, doubling him up. He then seized the man's rifle and impaled him on his own bayonet. "I was furious with him..."

Battle for the Bundhu
Charles Miller
I am about 75 pages in to this WWI history of the East African Campaign and it is absolutely a great read. Very vivid in description and detailed with tactics. It is also a very obscure book about the little known campaign of von Lettow.

The above passage, although gruesome, indeed makes me grateful for semi-automatic weapons...provides that second shot if needed.

Sounds like some of the fights my wife and I used to get into after drinking Inglenook wine ($5.89 for a jumbo bottle) :yikes:
