Here is a great quote that sums up how most of us feel:

"To defeat a weak opponent is not the problem: The problem is to win when he is as good or better than you".

I read the quote. You make it sound like they're better than us. You didn't specify you thought they were weak.

We were an evenly matched team - which the quote addresses. If you believe we were a far superior team, then I don't know what to say :loco:

You guys cry about OU if you want. I'm ready for a tune up against WCU and then, Florida!! that's the game I've circled on the calendar!!

Who is crying, just thought that sums up the game and hadn't seen it before. The fan base is eager for a relevant win and the General, in his infinite wisdom, was spot on decades ago.

OU found a Qb at our expense. That was all they really needed to be a good team. Unfortunate that it was against us.

Maxim #7. Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes.

Boom. Trump card played.

Did the General say anything about not taking a knee for an entire half on offense after building up a good, but far from insurmountable lead??

I don't know that they found a quarterback. Without drive extending penalties in the ,4th quarter the score is 17-3. If UT could wrap up on tackles we would be celebrating. Except for the one pass to Shepard, I thought he played very poorly.

Trust me he's gonna be fine.. Unless an injury occurs.. His numbers don't reflect how good of a QB he is...

You fans calling for Butch's head acting like the season is over are embarrassing. We just almost beat a very good football team. That's more than we would have done 2 year's ago. But here y'all are acting like our season is over when it only just began. Our goal is still a realistic and very doable goal (sec east champs) especially with scar going down. So stop y'all's whining and support this coach.

Let me try to correct your statement:

They are a good team and we lost to an evenly matched opponent.

This is where many of our fans go off the rails. They set way too high, emotional expectations and then fall apart when those expectations aren't met.

General Neyland

Thanks for the great quote, JPS. I think that's exactly the right one for this game. :good!:

Grammatically corrected.

General Neyland is some mad at you, Ed. He is a glaring at you from the grave. [grammar errors included free of charge for your entertainment] :)

The problem is not the loss as much as how we laid down in the 4th quarter. If we ran a normal offense and took close to 2 minutes off the clock for our conservative 3 and outs instead of 39 seconds in our Hurry Up and Punt scheme, we might have actually held on to win

Oh, we can look to Neyland for the fix of many of our problems. Especially if we go back to his original list of 38 maxims.

4. One good interferer (Blocker) is worth 3 ball carrying stars.

5. A team that won't be beat can't be beat.

14. If the line goes forward, the team wins; if it comes backward, the team loses.

19. Let none escape!

27. Never stop fighting.

30. Be aggressive, you can't win the game on your side of the scrimmage line.

31. If the game is going against you, keep your head up, set your jaw, and dig in. This is what tests the stuff you are made of.

32. Hate & abhor the scrimmage line; it is a restraining mark.

37. Play your own position well first.

38. Line -- charge with the ball!

There are more that could apply. Take your pick. Neyland would have punched it in. He wanted to average 6 yards per run.
