Great film breaking down the Florida game

I watched this today. What I learned i Heard needs to get a lot better, and fast.

The other thing I learned is this offense is so so damn close to breaking it open.

Also I'm pretty sure there are 1-2 more threads on this, but i'm too lazy to link them up.
Yeah I tried to find threads about it already but guessed I missed it.

If Lance Heard is really this bad, what does this say about our team depth at offensive tackle?
Well Campbell can't finish a game, so that already puts one of our backups on the field. Larry Johnson i guess isn't getting it done in practice either.

That film shows how bad heard is during the game. Id love to see him break Johnson down vs OK

The problem is Heard needs to play but looks so bad right now that getting him the experience he needs is costing us. So do you go with another guy and hurt Heard's confidence? Or keep playing Heard and hope he gets better?

Talent eventually comes to the forefront, hold on to the flashes he shows, even if they are few and far between, and wait for it to click. It will eventually and sometimes it happens at the most unexpected times.

Easy to forget that Heard is a true sophomore, and the injury during fall camp clearly hampered him. He may well look like a different player by season’s end between playing himself into shape and getting more experience.

Give up on Heard now, and you’re giving up the chance to have any continuity in your offensive line next year. If you can bring him along and Umarov can take a guard spot next year, you only have three spots to fill with 6 or so true sophomores, at least three of whom the staff is high on, and the portal, plus an outside chance David Sanders is ready to push for playing time as a freshman. In other words, stay the course with Heard and it could shape up pretty decently next year. Without him, things look a lot more dicey.

Next year is when we really start to find out whether Glen can cut the mustard as a oline coach, imo.

I think Dayne Davis is serviceable enough to get the job done over there, I get what you're saying but maybe throw Dayne out there and let him do the dirty work. Don't hurt to let him learn from one of the Vets

Excellent breakdown. I wish more people would watch these, especially some in the media who never played a down of organized football trying to say “defenses have caught up”. Big plays were all over the field to be made but numerous miscues, not all on Heard, kept them from happening.

After watching the video, I can’t believe the pass Brazzell caught over the middle didn’t draw a flag & potential targeting. Fla player clearly went for the head & CB was obviously “defenseless”.

I know Heupel hates to sub on offense but if Heard can't actually give quality effort for a full series perhaps subbing for him when he gets gassed is a potential solution.

He seems to be able to have flashes of strong play and periods of play that is "a liability on offense."

I know subbing ruins our rhythm but so does having drives stall with poor O Line play. It's not optimal but it might let Nico have time to look around and give our running game a boost also.

Keep playing him, but play someone else too. I think alot of his problem is he is out of shape. His early season injury may have played a factor in that. He need reps, but we need to start repping someone else for next year too. Campbell and Davis both are gone.

Heard looks like a shape issue. The pull where he clears the way for Sampson’s tud late, is freaky talent for a big dude,

Just stay patient as fans. Coaches have to scheme and protect better. More tight ends chipping, get the ball out quicker. Roll the pocket for the deep shots, and keep taking them.

I don’t see how he can be this bad after winning a starting job at LSU as a true freshman, earning freshman All-SEC honors, and earning a big NIL to come to either Tennessee and Ole Miss.

I’m no expert but the aforementioned evidence suggests that he’s simply not playing up to his ability right now, which could be the result of him playing through an injury or being out of shape… or both.

I wouldn’t be surprised if his performance improves as the season progresses.

That film makes ut offense look dismal. I hope they get things clicking this week, but that's probably not likely, just to be blunt.

One good thing I will say is supposedly Alabama secondary is their weakness. Maybe Nico can hit a couple deep and back them out of the box, assuming they play it like this.

Why wouldn't they? Until UT proves they can block, pressure the o line. The only answer is to burn them for it. Gotta hit the deep ball Nico.

Very good breakdown. Close, but do far away. It starts up front… and defenses are stacking the box challenging us to throw deep. We gotta hit some of those, and the line needs to give him time!

Sometimes a quarterback just starts making plays. I’m hoping that this is the game where that happens for Nico, and we omit the “K” sound from his name for a minute after he avoids the rush and drops a dime to a tight end or Brazzell or someone.
