Wed better not be! The new sheriff in town at the better schools in the SEC, will traditionally see an upswing in recruiting in his first 2 years (new coach, new attitude, new system, offering early plaiting time, etc.). By year 3, if youre not winning, recruiting can start to tail off.
No doubt, hes on the road, working like hell, trying to get in the mix for a lot of top players. But, until he lands them and puts us in the top 10, Id hestitate to say, recruiting like a beast. Were at #17 right now, so he has a shot.
Ive posted this before. Heres why I dont want to overrate Pruitts recruiting abilities:
2013 at FSU - #1 in the nation.
2014 at UGA - #36 in the nation, Thigpen (#10) and Gillespie (#28) rated higher at Tennessee.
2015 at UGA - #37 in the nation, Stripling (#15), Elder (#19), and Thigpen (#24) rated higher at Tennessee.
2016 at Alabama - #71 in the nation. Thigpen (#34) and Gillespie (#64) rated higher at Tennessee.
2017 at Alabama - #149 in the nation. 6 Tennessee coaches rated higher.
Im behind CJP 100%, Just saying, while recruiting for some top programs, hes definitely trending in the wrong direction.
Ranking recruiters is a pretty difficult job. A lot of recruits seem like they are never given a primary recruiter on 247. Also many recruits, especially high ranking recruits, get several recruiters that recruit them. If I am guessing for the declining numbers, head coaches recognized Pruitts ability to close with high caliber recruits so they moved him into a role where he was maybe not a primary recruiter for as many players, but was able to develop relationships with a wider network of recruits and then stay along to all the important visits with the recruits primary recruiters.
