Grades From Brutal 5 Game Stretch

Hard pressed to give a team a C for Alabama when their own coach was calling out the team for not showing up or anything other than an F for a 6 turnover performance against FL.

Probably have to argue against a B+ against SC when they could have easily won that game with fewer self inflicted mistakes. More like a C+.

Grades from Brutal 5 Game Stretch:

1. Florida -- Line: Florida -4. Prediction: We expected a nail biter that could go either way. Result: A 47-21 loss that was not indicative of how relatively even the two teams were due to 6 turnovers from the Vols. Grade: D

2. Georgia -- Line: Georgia -30.5 Prediction: Honestly, we just hoped we could keep it somewhat competitive and not get blown out on national TV. Result: The Vols hung in for 3.5 quarters, and made Georgia sweat just a bit in the second half. Grade: B+

3. Auburn -- Line: Auburn -15.5 Prediction: Confidence was gained in the UGA game, and coming off a bye week and playing a Noon kick game, we thought that if we played well we could give Auburn a run for their money on the Plains. Result: We played our best game to date, won all three phases and took home a great win. Grade: A

4. Alabama -- Line: Alabama -29.5 Prediction: Emotions were high with CJP facing his former team, and the return of CBJ to Neyland Stadium. We knew it would be a tough row to hoe, but thought if we played our best we could make Alabama uncomfortable for a half or so. Result: Alabama proved again why they are the best team in the country, but the Vols fought for 4Qs even when the score was out of hand. Grade: C

5. South Carolina -- Line: South Carolina -9.5 Prediction: Despite being a heavy road dog, coming off playing a physical game against the #1 team in the world, and South Carolina having the benefit of a bye week to prepare and an electric environment of a their first home night game of the year, the Vols felt confident the game would be a coin flip. Result: Tennessee outplayed South Carolina for 3 quarters, but didn't make as many plays in crunch time as the Gamecocks. Grade: B+

Overall Grade for Brutal 5 Game Stretch: We were only less than a touchdown underdog in one game, and played three on the road. Even stealing one win is impressive, but hanging in against Georgia and having South Carolina on the ropes puts the grade in "Good" territory. Grade: B
JMO, but 1-4 in a stretch we should have been no worse than 2-3 in, and quite possibly 3-2 doesn’t deserve a B. It’s a C-, for me. Could have been a C+/B- with a win last Saturday.

20%

So a very low F.

Not completely unexpected for a first year HC. Its like a freshman taking doctoral level courses.

I expect CJP to improve and hopefully against lesser opponents on the schedule it will translate into wins. For now though, it’s an F.

We blew a 2 touchdown lead vs Carolina. Both sides of the ball collapsed in the 2nd half.

We should have won that game.

That’s D material.

That's F material. That was a game we should have won. I don't think the team should get a passing grade for losing a game we should've won.

First of all, I wish my professors in college back in the day would have graded like the OP.

Here's my grades:
Florida-F Team looked horrible
UGA-C- Team showed some fight but got pushed around.
AU-A Great win
Bama-C Clearly outmatched but played with heart
SC -F We should have won
