Jones: 'Comical' to call this biggest game

“That’s absolutely ridiculous,” Jones told the hosts. “It’s comical. …

“I understand what’s at stake. I understand the rivalry and all that. [But if you] put so much emphasis on one game, there’s a long season to be played. Not one game is going to make or break Butch Jones and Tennessee football. I’d kind of chuckle if I hear that, but that’s not the case.”

I get what he is saying and all, every week is a big week, gotta win them all, yadda, yadda, yadda.....but man coachspeak probably would have actually been preferred here haha. Surely in his head, he realizes to the fans this is a make or break it game for a lot of Vol Nation.

Also, lol but did he just speak in 3rd Person?

Except no ones laughing Butch. If you loose to Florida for a 4th year in a row with better athletes once again then fans will question your ability as a coach and rightfully so.

If Florida makes it 12 in a row then every fan in their right mind will start wondering if Butch is the answer. I know the program was in shambles when he took over but come the hell on he's in his 4th year and he has a team full of top quality talent.

We all need this win something bad tomorrow and that includes you too Coach

Well this is the next game and it is very important for his HC career here whether he wants to accept it or not. Seems to me like he's in denial.

Please, one freaking time, quit with the BS coach speak and own the damn situation. This is what it's all about. It's Tennessee and Florida in the game of the week. It's Tennessee's future hanging in the balance. It's the entire country watching you to see if Tennessee is actually back or if it's still all talk. This is what you come to Tennessee for. ****ing own it, Butch.

If Butch loses to Florida again there will be nothing comical about it expect the way our program will look to the CFB world. Get the W coach

Biggest of his coaching career for sure up to this point. Lose this one and it gets very uncomfortable for Butch losing 4 years straight to your biggest divisional rival.

And this was his mantra coming in to the season yet he's side-stepping it. I agree with you; own the damn thing.

If he's honest about the situation then he knows he's got to come out and run this **** like there is no tomorrow. It's win or die the way I see it. Let's go for the damn thing.

The article also stated "one of the biggest games in Tennessee History"
Kinda important in the context.
I think that I would call that an exaggeration also.

Either way, they're all hearing it, he's just doing the "coach speak" to take the pressure off thing.

When we spank the Gators 28-17, you dont want him going "oh, whew, well now we can sit back and glide. I already won the most important game of the year"

I think he knows how important this game is to our season, our fanbase and his future - but hey, every game after this will be pretty important too if we win this one.

I'm okay with the approach of every game is the biggest game. You want to show out at all times. But I'm not okay with him continuously not owning the expectations. Look at Shoop. He blatantly said this week that he knows he was hired to win this game. If your own DC and fans know this Butch, why are you trying to deflect as if this is just another game? It's not.

I think Butch is trying to say that EVERY game on your schedule is a big game. The only reason the Florida/Tennessee series is "big" because it's an intense rivalry and everyone talks about it. Not to mention the losing streak that's yet to be broken. If Butch loses this game, I'll be highly disappointed but Florida isn't the only important game on our schedule like everyone is assuming.

I think it's comical how bent out of shape fans get over what coaches say.

It can be a fan's biggest game, but these coaches are focused on the program. In the scheme of a program, the next game is the next game. You control you and don't worry about the outside noise. You want your players to keep that mindset, so you model it. Don't overlook anyone, don't buy into any other team's hype, and stick to your plan.
