govols.com article, is UT selling out?

I can see why Greg isn't coaching any more. Every single college player would like to think he can advance to the NFL. Every advantage he can get would likely be welcome. If we have coaches that can coach them to get better and maybe go to the next level, Great!!!!!

Austin Peay is just a little different than UT.

I haven't seen any evidence at all that academics will be sacrificed with this staff.

His first argument is solely based on his experience at Austin Peay, which is useless in the discussion of how UT players would focus on academics, etc

Then he went on with his "NCAA football players" stuff. The numbers he gave are not relevant to UT football players: we will recruit the best HS players in the country; they are supposed to working their butt off to try to move to the next level. The other way to think about it is that our players are top .1% of one million HS players.

Lastly, if you doubt anything I just said above, Kiffin would make it happen in next years, just wait and see......

Can see why he is NOT employeed as a sports writer. This is the 21st century and times have changed. Does anyone know if this is the same Greg Johnson that played at TENN HIGH? In Bristol.

Johnson and why did I waste my time reading a blog by somebody who compares Austin Peay athletics with UT athletics? These idiots at the KNS will do anything to get a hit on their site it appears.

Tom Siler would be spinning in his grave if he was aware of this superficial, new age editorializing.

i read this article on friday, and immediately felt like he had some sort of bad blood with UT and how the coaches were hired.

I'm supposed to be concerned about what some doofus who compares Austin Peay to Tennessee thinks about Lane Kiffin?

I can't believe I wasted my time reading that. I could have been on the Marlon Brown thread reading about why his grandmother didn't come this weekend.

If UT isn't recruiting players who want to and can be NFL guys, then we won't be winning many football games. Last time I checked (although academics and behavior count) most DI football coaches are measured on wins and losses.

It doesn't seem like Jimmy Hyams holds this new staff in very high regard. Some of the comments he made last week made it sound like he was pining for the Fulmer Administration. I don't think he believes it was a very good idea to turn over the reins of the Tennessee program to a group outside of the "family". It sounds like he thinks the program has lost some integrity with Kiffin and crew at the helm. I think Hyams thinks Orgeron is a loose cannon who will bring investigations upon the Vols.

I just have to say, being from Clarksville and having many friends go to Austin Peay for athletics (football, basketball) and personally knowing an ex-Lady Govs basketball coach, I can say academics were always and will always be first there. I'm not sure how things were ran "many moons ago", but they aren't that way now. Plus comparing APSU and UT is like apples and oranges. Was it not posted that Kiffin went to different classes to make sure the players were showing up? Dude needs to stick with writing about when the next county fair is in town.
