The Vols vs. Ohio St. game was great but we came up a little short. The loss stung a little but I felt a great since of pride after the game because anytime you can be a fan of a team with that much heart and drive you are a lucky fan. Not knowing much about the team I can see how good the Vols will be in the future with a driven Bruce Pearl as our coach.

1. Pros do not give that kind of effort that I saw us put out.
2. The team seems to be in great physical condition.
3. No big man but effort, heart, speed make up for that weakness somewhat.
4. Great at the fullcourt press and 100% pesks on D.
5. Great teams should fear us I really believe because the Vols do not stop trying till the clock hits 0.00
6. If we get hot shootin the 3 ball then we score 150 points:)
7. Very fun team to watch play ball and I cant wait to see them again.

This team must learn to shoot FT's if we expect to get anywhere. It's one of the easiest shots in bball yet we struggled with the game on the line. Oden shot better than UT did with his opposite hand!

I hope CBP can get it corrected for an SEC run.

JuJuan needs to get back to being a scoring threat for us if we are going to be at all successful in the SEC. The last couple of games he has shot terribly.

Gonna get razed on this one, but here goes:

1. Free throw- unopposed shot
2. CJ shot over 85% last year upping our team %
3. Enough practice will settle the problem (albeit perhaps not this year)
4. Last 2 games they're not getting to the line enough (too much perimeter shooting)
5. JaJuan has got to get out of his head and quit trying to create too much like Lofton because all they need out of him is a solid 15 ppg by what comes to him in the game
6. Lastly, play as a team in the system because the system is a proven winner

all good points.

Thanks Freak.

The razing I figured would only come from point 1. (For possibly being a smarta$$) The rest is fairly logical.

Now that I got that squared... this team is soooo much fun to watch BECAUSE of the way they play. Rip your heart out for 8 minutes and then make you think they are the best in the country for the next 6. I've been following since the Tony White days and have never been as transfixed with BB (any team or level) ever. The fact that it's the school that is my second home makes it even more intoxicating. It truly is a great time to be a Vol.

P.S.- If Hamilton ever let's CBP even toy with the idea of leaving I will put him #1 on my hit list ahead of Spurrier.

I started following UT hoops as a kid during the Dale Ellis/Michael Brooks/Dyron Nix era (I'm 31), and I can't remember being as enthusiastic or excited about the team at ANY point as now.

The difference, to me, is this: under 1 1/2 seasons under Bruce Pearl, roughly 45-50 games, I have never seen the Vols give up on a game, or give anything less than 110% effort. Not to stir up a hornet's nest here, but can we honestly say the same about Fulmer's teams?

Same age as you, just picked it up a little earlier (I do really miss Curly Nix though, what a greatly underappreciated player in the UT annals). Agree with you fully except for mentioning CPF. PLEASE keep this a basketball post.

BTW, there was a post a few weeks ago about the all time UT basketball team (top 10?). Nix was mentioned ONCE, I think. Total crap. On the right team he is a 20/10 guy. If he doesn't start as an undersized 4 on the all-time team then he's still getting significant minutes. He carried this program for 2 years basically all by himself.

I must be the same age as both of you. My first game at Stokely, I think I remember seeing Dale Ellis, Willie Burton, Michael Brooks, Tyrone Beaman. Those were fun times, but this is more fun. And agree 100% with the value in not quitting - it means a ton to fans who follow the team.

And agree that Dyron Nix was the bright spot in the middle of some gloomy years and probably underappreciated now.

Let's hope we never return to that type of era.

1. Gotta love the effort that they give.
2. With Jordan coming back soon to help take up some of the minutes and have a more fresh Chris Lofton and Ramar Smith, hopefully we won't hit a wall like we did at the end of last year. I love the up-tempo style.
3. We definitely don't have an answer if we have to match up with someone like Oden.
4. I love the press. It sometimes doesn't seem to be as effective this year for some reason, though.
5. We might lose some games that we probably shouldn't (Vandy, for example), but we seem to step it up for the big games. The Vols do play hard for the whole game, and we seem to be right there in all the games. I'm not into moral victories, but it really was a good showing on the home court of a top-5 national team.
6. Definitely more exciting for the fans that the points scored during the Kevin O'Neill days.
7. The Auburn game is on TV Wednesday, and then we are home against South Carolina on Saturday. This is the second of only three home game in January. Plus, after the South Carolina game there are only six home games left. Everyone needs to come out support the team. GO VOLS!!
