The PCA (Porsche Club of Alabama) hosted a DE weekend at Barber.

I'll be entering the next one but for this one I did the "Taste of the Track" where driving instructors take you around the track for some hot laps in their cars.

My first and best ride was in an old 944. Not the fastest car but the best driver. Amazing how hard they brake and shift. My head (in helmet of course) hit the roll cage on every upshift. Other rides were in a newer 911 (355 hp) and a last generation M3.

Speaking of M3's - this poor guy wrecked his new (08) M3. Rumor has it, it's a lease car. Good luck turning this one back in. (the rear wheel towed out massively)

Sounds like a great time, I would love to do something like that.

What the top speed you got to, in your rides?

A few ticks over 100. The straights aren't very long. I can tell you that bombing into a down hill turn after a straight away makes 100 feel crazy fast.

You got that right! Try it on a enduro kart lying on your back with your butt about 2" off the track. And just to make it more exciting, do it at Mid-Ohio where almost every turn is blind and off camber.

From a sim-driving standpoint, I hate that track. I hate it so very much.

Many drivers are not too keen on Miid-Ohio, it is a challenge. If you can learn the turn-in points on all those blind turns, have the confidence to put your right foot down earlier than the others, you have a big advantage. It is a momentum track, you must carry speed through the turns. I found that lifting early and then accellerating through the apex of most turns was the quick way around.
