Good-bye Coach

Just follow Auburn and get rid of Clausen - he is not SEC caliber. At least they did better when he called his own plays.

Haven't we already gotten rid of 2 Clausens and thank god didn't get a 3rd? I agree Notre Dame is not SEC caliber. They would be fighting us and Arkansas for last.

Yeah, I bet Lennon Creer would give him a glowing evaluation.

Fulmer has lost the players as well. Not that they don't play hard, but they are not confident in their direction.

It's up to him. If he puts UT fans through much more of this, they will hate him.

True. Best thing for everybody would be for him to announce his retirement effective the end of the year, like Lloyd Carr did last year. I think it would end alot of the frusturation with the fans and more fans would be supportive of him knowing the change most of us desire was comming soon.

He can go out with class, have the crowds cheer him for is final year, and retire as a semi-legend. OR, he can continue this crap, have EVERYONE hate him, ruin his legacy, and get fired anyway.

Well said Dawson.

I won't spam every thread with a post I made from last week but with the above poster talking about him announcing his retirement and going out with the fans cheering him I am reposting what I said in another post earlier in the week:

I'm going to compare Fulmer to a famous rock star.....and let me preface this by saying I don't think he'd be the kind of person to actually snub an autograph this is just an analogy.

In 1993 Fulmer was an energetic coach with something to prove. He was the upstart that carried Sharpies around in his pocket telling everyone who he was and what he planned on doing. He wasn't that well known yet and just getting his name out there. But people liked his music early on because it was a different tune than the one they had been hearing the past few years beforehand.

By 1998 he was a solidified "rock star" that everyone talked about and knew who he was. After having song of the year, album of the year, and artist of the year he reached legendary status. He would still passingly sign the autographs but he no longer carried his own Sharpies or pictures of himself around.

By 2003 he was the rock star that had started griping about being hounded by the fans and didn't want to sign crap anymore. Now he wouldn't promise artist of the year (National title) anymore but he still "shot for" song of the year (SEC title). He was now a living legend and didn't need the hassle of the fan expectations. Instead of the upstart trying to make a name for himself he already had the name recognition and had been to the top of the mountain and was coming back down the other side.

Now, in 2008, he's came full circle. In 93 he was the new hotshot telling everyone who he was with his own pictures in hand and his own Sharpies trying to get his name out there. Now in 08 he's got his own Sharpies back out telling people what all he has done to be such a "rock star." Trying to get people to remember that he had some great songs in the past and that he was the "artist of the year" in 1998. Now, he's still having to sing those old songs because his new songs just don't cut it anymore.

Lets hope that instead of becoming a complete parody of himself this "rock star" will announce that this year is his farewell tour soon so his fans can send him out properly instead of wishing him to just go away and quit singing. We don't want your music to be remembered by the crappy stuff you have mostly sang for the past 5 years - we want to remember you for all of your hits from the mid to late 90s. We want to send you off well and give you that proper send off if only you will let us.

We don't want the record companies or music theater's calling for your head because you no longer can bring it or put the butts in the seats. I'm sure the record company would be willing to give you a good send off and the fans would pack the theater's and would give you a big round of applause after every performance for the remainder of the year if you said that this is your last go round.

We want to remember the rock star Fulmer that took us to greatness not this old, worn out Fulmer that is having difficulty just staying in tune anymore.

I feel sorry for Coach Fulmer, he is a TN guy and wants to win more than anyone, but it is just not working out anymore. I hope he just retires and doesn't let this get ugly.

I am so tired of seeing this I feel sorry for CPF crap! WHY? He has been the HC at one of the most prestigious football programs in the country for years, and know his run is over. The way our program is headed, how can you feel sorry for him. I dont feel sorry for him the least little bit. Thanks for the memories but this has been a long time coming! We have been underachieving for years with our coaching staff, change is what we need!! Please stop the cry me a river for CPF lines. I do agree with the rest of your post tho (I hope he just retires and doesnt let this get ugly) but ugly it is going to get, Phil is not going to step down, we all know this. The powers that be know this, this offseason may get very interesting!

I dont know fulmer personally and normally would not wish for anyone to get fired from their job. However In your normal everyday jobs people are held to much higher standards than fulmer has been. In most jobs you need higher than a 66 % success ratio to obtain a raise. I also find it really hard to feel sorry for someone who makes more money in one year than most people will see in their entire lives. I dont wish anything bad to happen to the man. He is just not getting it done anymore. Assuming he does get fired its not as if he will be homeless or poor. For his work UT will be giving him 6 million. Where do I sign up to get paid $6,000,000 not to work?

It's already ugly.

Sorry for Phill-up? How 'bout the players that come here as Frosh All-Americans and get "forgotten" on the bench? How 'bout players that get thrown under the bus by a coach that can't discipline himself?

UT will not lose to Vandy and odds are they will need to win to make a bowl. Sucks to be a commodedoor

I have no idea where this confidence comes from. Vandy plays us VERY tough every year, and has been a hairs width away from taken us down several years. We won last years game by 1 point. They beat us in 2005. A common scenario in the Vandy game has us making a 4th quarter comeback to win. This year, we have no ability to come back.
