Gone but not forgotten: Knoxville area restaurants and retailers we miss.

^ @MAD what year is that?

It's more recent than one would think. That's the more recent look. Arby's majority owner began renovating locations in 2014. A minority owner began renovating theirs in 2019.

I recall the reno being about 10 years ago for that location. The kudzu does present a jungly landscape around it!

Yes, was definitely a li'l dive bar.

Once I drank enough to get sick right outside their front door. But ... came back in and asked them for a bucket of water. They looked at me grimly but actually did hand me one, and I took care of it! 🤔

This was a long time ago, long about 1980 or so.

Our friends at KnoxTnToday come through yet again, in this article from 2019:

Thanks for sharing! I swam there a couple of times...probably in late 80s. Nice place then. I suppose part of the expenses were insurance. Seems like that's why a lot of community pools closed. It is a nice dog park now, and every time I take my 4 legged buddy there, he loves it. When I take him there, I can't help but think of what used to be. 😊

The Holston-Chilhowee Dog Park was an abandoned municipal pool until recently. 6005 Holston Drive.

I never got to swim at Holston-Chilhowee Pool before it closed, but I've been back in the pool area a while back to explore. I think it closed in the early '00s. That was a nice site for a pool, very close to the river there, like Concord Pool.

Here's an article from Knoxnews from 2009: East Knox pool offers fun for all ages

Here's an article about exploring the pool property, from 2019, with pictures: Holston-Chilhowee Community Pool

The pool was right in the middle of the graded field in this satellite view:
