I am getting my irons re-shafted and will need new grips. Currently I have the attached grip. Any suggestions on what I might change to? I'm looking at the golf pride DD2.

I like chunky grips, personally, to keep myself from holding too tight. But im also a hacker.

I have those exact grips you have now and I wouldn't change them for anything. I'm actually on my third set of them. Once I get back to the States, I'm pretty much buying an entire new bag (to include a new bag) and I won't swing a club until I put the multi-cords on everything but the wedges and putter.

I would like to save them, because they are only a year old, however the guys say they can't save them. Which I think is bs because when I worked at a pro shop we saved grips all the time. That was 15 years ago however. What do you use on your wedges? I have the Cleveland cg15 wedges and don't like the grips.

I just had all my clubs regripped with Winn Excel wrapped grips. At the shop, I bought a new Ping and Callaway Jaws wedge and had them gripped before leaving the shop. I like these better than any I've had before.

If you play twice a week on average, you probably should replace your grips every year. I don't think people realize how much deterioration grips go through in just 80-100 rounds. If they are still in good condition however, there's no reason a capable golf pro can't save your grips. He should be able to save them regardless. I like something softer on my wedges than the cords, maybe because whether I'm chipping or fully swinging my wedges, I prefer to go glove-less with them. Not Winn grip soft, but something in between. I honestly don't know what's on my wedges and they are half a world away from me right now.

I hear ya. I play 1-2 times a week. The guy said they can try to save them, but it is a $5 regripping fee. $6 bucks for new grips. It is a joke either way. I am with you on the softer grips for the wedges. However the winn grips don't seem to last as long for me.

I like the feel on the winn grips, they just don't seem to be as durable.

This is my first set, so I have no experience with the durability. I do love the feel of them. If they only last a year, I'll put new ones on next year. Cost at the shop I used was $7 per grip including installation. Big variety out there to choose from.

I had the Winn grips on my I3 irons for a little while and couldn't stand it. Plus they started wearing down almost immediately. I liked the feel on the driver initially, but never felt like I could get a good grip and it seemed the club would always be sliding. My hands sweat a lot (i've gone through 3 gloves in one round before) and I think that just doesn't mix well with compounds of Winn grips.

They do feel great, but if you play a lot, within a month or two you will see significant wear on them.

3 gloves in a round is a lot. I can usually go a couple months before I need a new glove. Usually the thumb wears out. The new golf pride wrap grip is getting good reviews as well as the DD2 grip I talked about earlier. I may go with one of those just to see. I'll report back with what I decide on Monday. Getting them extended an inch, and re-gripped Saturday at Edwin Watts in Memphis.

I've heard that GPMC grips are good for humid weather/sweaty hands. Also, Lamkin Crossline Cord. It's usually 10-15% humidity when I play, so I don't get that problem.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep on the lookout for problems when the golf weather hits Utah. Probably still a month away.

what I mean by 3 gloves is that even though I go with cabretta leather gloves, they still get so soaked in a round that I switch out. Once they dry out, they're usually fine and I get probably two to three months out of a 3 glove set. Sorry for any confusion. Usually my problem is the bottom of the middle wearing out or that meaty section of the palm that connects to the thumb. Good luck with whatever choice you make and I look forward to the review. Right now though my stance is I'm not going to fix one of the few things I'm certain are right when it comes to my golf game. I know there's lots of things wrong with it as little as I get to play anymore.

Got ya, that makes more sense. Haha. Grips have never really made a difference in my game other than how I like the feel. I wouldn't replace my grips if I weren't getting them extended though. I should have just ordered the length I knew I needed, but I was inpatient. Oh well.

Ever try to do it yourself? It's just not a very complicated process.

I can regrip them myself, but I am getting the clubs extended too. I figure by the time I buy the tape and the solution to regrip I might as well pay the 60 bucks to have the new grips put on.

I use both of these

I use the Golf Pride Tour Velvets on irons and wedges
Then the Winn Grips on Driver, 3 Wood and rescue

I also regrip at the start of every season...

YOu should also wipe them off after every round with warm soapy water...

I usually try to go 2 years on a set of grips. Have you seen the Golf Pride DD2 grips? If so, any opinions?
