I was upset we didn't get Charlie Strong, but after watching Butch Jones in action, I've never been more proud to be a UT alumni and fan. I live in Cincinnati and every UC alum that I've met has told me we would love Butch as our coach, just give him time. They are right, he's a great coach.

Butch has integrity, cares about his players, cares about the fans, loves our alumni and letterman. I think we are very blessed to have a man like Butch Jones as our coach.

I also think our players have bought into his style. We have the talent to beat almost every team on our roster if we just execute.

Here's to a great season, a great team and a great coach.

He's had a good run with recruiting but why don't we let him coach a couple of games first.

Charlie Weis got to Notre Dame and reeled in the #5 class in the nation which also sported the highest average rating per player of any class.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch... no matter how good the eggs look.

This^^^ all day. I love Butch Jones as much as anyone but I'm not going to crown him the emperor of Tennessee until we have significantly more W's than L's.

thread title is a little bit of a stretch at this point. now...if he brings home a couple of nc's...hell ya. but not trying to be a buzzkill, he's totally blown away my expectations thus far

I agree with you though, he's doing everything right. I don't think there's a coach out there that's a better fit for what UT needs at this point in time. I too haven't been this happy about the Vols and our future potential in a long time.

No doubt. But, as I said, so was Charlie Weis when he first got to ND.

I know what the OP is saying, I agree, BUT I also agree with DC Vols....Momentum will be a great contributor to the foundation CBJ is establishing. Maintaining is the tough part of coaching....

A few games better yet a few seasons....I think the staff in place is doing a great job and they know what can be expected when competing in the SEC. I expect Coach Jones to meet that challenge and think that he will with a few bumps and bruises along the way...

For us, as fans it is great to see this wounded beast of a football team show signs of life...First time I am seeing this since 2002......Energy, momentum and a plan that makes sense....Just waiting for that breakthrough game and when it does happen there will be no looking back....

Lets close the 14 class out and discuss this next year at this time....

Charlie Weiss wasn't a proven winner as a head coach. Don't compare apples to oranges. By the way, he has coached a few games, 6 seasons worth. Butch jones is like Allstate, were in good hands!

It will be quite interesting to see what happens on this board the first time CBJ looses one that he shouldn't.

We've been so snake bitten recently that people act like Butch Jones is one of those fake lottery tickets. Butch Jones is the real deal, he's not the fake ticket your afraid of, go ahead and start celebrating because we're gonna start collecting what is due to us in the very near future. GO VOLS!!

When one is blessed by God you can see the fruit of their existence in who they are personally, their impact on others, with what they accomplish with the talents that have been given, and with how they handle adversity.

So far - check to all of them.

Doing it right with integrity and hard work generally indicates a well grounded individual. Butch walked into a major mess and from Day 1 stated what would happen and how it would happen. Now as we head toward fall camp and the season we will see if he makes best use of the talent and stays true to the mission. If cracks develop in the process; treatment of players, coaches, media and fans; repeated bad games plans, schemes and plays; etc. - we will get to see his reaction and character. If blessed, it will work out to produce more fruit than anybody ever envisioned. If not blessed - we already know. We have witnessed that for the past half dozen years or more.

Our role is to support and lift up. We need to have his and entire program's back. This is bigger than W/L's.

I'm sooooo glad we didn't Charlie strong....
Strong proved himself a good coach, last year, and it was no small feat getting Teddy Bridgewater out of South Florida. In the SEC, he'd be able to recruit lights out, too. We'd be in good shape with either.

He's a great recruiter and we hope he's a great coach. If he coaches as well as he recruits then Tennessee is in good hands.

He is the real deal, and people are scared, rightfully so, we've been through the worst years of my 42 years. I remember before the 98 National Championship Game praying to God, please help us win and I want care if we don't win for the next 15 years!! I actually just remebered that....God is Good....sorry guys...should've said next 5 years!

I don't get the whole "see if he can coach" or "if he can coach" argument. The guy is proven winner, PERIOD. Just my opinion.

What HC record did Weis have when he took over ND? Not sure how you compare the two.
