She's not discredited or anything like that, it's just that language usage was shown to be more complex than she postulated. Her work was incomplete and one of the ways it was shown to be incomplete was the discovery that subordinants use certain words and phrases intentionally so as to control where the conversation goes and to better underscore any philosophical differences. In other words, the subordinant is the one really in charge. Regarding the use of the word lady in 'Lady Vols', this explanation fits well in my opinion. And it explains why those such as reverseosmosis want to do away with the term - they don't like not being in charge of the conversation.

horseback psychology. Subordinate, dominant, it doesn't matter: the word "lady" is antiquated. There's no getting round that. What's more, when used by men, as it often was in the past, there were definite sexist and chauvinistic overtones with its usage. If the basketball team had a less successful tradition, this name change wouldn't even be an issue. But the name is associated with a winning tradition and with Summitt, and so it is ingrained with the diehards. Women's rights and women's athletics have come too far for fans to cling to a name that smacks of roles women occupied in, say, the 1950s.

Stemming from duel misdemeanor arrests for assault and disorderly conduct in late April, the WNBA announced today that the Mercury's Brittney Griner and the Shock's Glory Johnson would be suspended for 7 games without pay for conduct detrimental to the WNBA. Griner and Johnson were married on May 10.
