Watching the B@B on TV for the first time. Seeing things you could not at the game. 4 minutes into the 2nd quarter they pull Thomas, Weisman slides to center and they insert Jack Jones. We start the following series from our own 10 yard line after a punt forced by a dominant stop by our D on short yardage.

1st play Hurd runs right with great blocking for 6.

2nd play - QB draw to the right for 40 yard gain. Makes their best tackler miss in doing so.

3rd play - Hurd right up the gut for 6

4th play - deep bomb to Malone for a TD with the defense loading the box to try and stop the run.

With all the busted plays and bad blocking it is hard to remember the times when we showcase this talent in a positive way. It is and has been there. Hoping we tap into that more often.

hope we destroy Ohio and give these boys the confidence they need to perform that way every drive, and take that into the Florida game

I want to think Coleman Thomas isn't as bad as he's been playing so far, but one thing I know for sure is immediately following his removal from center, things started clicking MUCH better. Center is a tough position, no doubt about it. But either the mental aspect, or lack of hand quickness, or the inability to move his feet (or a combination of them all) has handcuffed him tremendously. Maybe moving him over to guard will be more comfortable for him. I know it will be for me haha

I think the first week was rough, but we got better. Week two was a slow start, but we got better. If we can come out against Ohio and get better this week, I will feel comfortable with this team beating florida and georgia. We are showing improvement week to week, lets just keep this train rolling and this chips will fall where they may! GBO!!

Next possession following this one Dobbs barely overthrows Croom in the end zone for what would have been another quick score. After that miss though Dobbs throws into traffic trying to make something out of nothing and gets lucky he isn't intercepted. I think those back to back drives showcase why getting Dobbs in a groove running is more important than tasking him with making our scores with his arm.

In that span of 5 minutes we make two dominant defensive stands, march 90 yards in four plays, score ten points, and come fingertip close to making that 14 pts in 3.5 minutes. It was our best ball of 2016. No fumbles or opponent collapses to credit either, just great ball by team 120 and their coaches. All the right plays some bad execution by Dobbs but overall balanced aggressive attacks.

His running helps create match ups on the outside. After he got 40 yards on a QB counter they pulled the safeties up closer to the line, leaving single coverage on the outside. Plus we finally moved somebody across the formation before the snap.

That series was run from the same formation, too, with two receivers on the outside in a stack formation. Because of the bubble pass options to either side on the read option calls, the safeties had to play too far to the outside to be effective against the run.

Much better said than I could have. Appreciate the breakdown.

That second TD drive in the VT game was gorgeous.

To hear the game told on VN I had forgotten I watched any good football. When we look good, we look really good.

Our third stop and third possession in the second quarter we close the quarter by converting our first third down with a Dobbs goal line TD run. We have now dropped 17 on VT in 10 minutes.

On that I stop the DVR and get amped for our next opponent.

It's amazing what strong execution can do.

I hate that we had so much trouble putting together another drive, but it's no small accomplishment to convert short fields into scores. Six touchdowns and two field goal attempts feels like a good ratio to me.

Funny thing is we DID put 3 back to back drives together in that one quarter. 2 sustained TD drives and a short yardage FG.

VT may have turned the tide with that big fumble but do not believe what you read about them giving it away. Having rewatched it UT curb stomped them and stole that game in the 2nd quarter.

17 unanswered - 0 fumbles during that period.

I put 90% of the non-greatness on the OL and Mahoney. We could be VERY good, but as of now with the way they are performing we are just good.

I put it at 60-40 with Dobbs decision making being the 40. In that second quarter the one mistake we had was Dobbs near interception. His throws limited the passing and we still got yards on the ground.

I'll say 70% O line, 20% playcalling, 5% Dobbs decision making, 5% miscellaneous. Fix the O line, and this offense looks MUCH better. Fix the O line AND playcalling, this offense will be championship good.

17 unanswered was just the start of a 45-3 run. We can score in droves. Short field or not, turnovers are part of H game. Capitalizing on them is the other part and we did just that. Some folks aren't happy win or lose

I actually thought that was a perfect pass -- seemed to me Croom turned his entire body and started back-pedaling way too soon/1-2 yrds even before the goal line , rather than simply running to the middle/sideline of the end-zone and turning his head left to run under the ball where it seems the ball was intended to be caught / as was thrown.

I actually credit Dobbs on that one.

Thanks OP. I too see the signs of greatness ahead !

Go VOLS !

Had Croom not broke of the route to stop and jump ball, Dobbs would have hit him perfectly in stride for a TD. Exactly like the deep ball in the end zone that Malone missed inexplicably. Hopefully we start to tweak it for more big plays.

I think Thomas will be fine. He strength is pulling and he can't do that very well with a bum ankle. On Dobbs first walk in TD against VT, Thomas made the key block at the second level to ensure the score. Thomas, and our entire O-line will be fine.
