"David Velasquez pored through one cut of film after another, more than he really cares to remember. A week between games might as well be measured in dog years for an assistant coach searching for any little advantage to oust the overall No. 1 seed and take his team to its first regional final. Velasquez, who essentially cut his teeth on San Diego State men’s basketball as a manager 21 years ago, got some tips from Alabama’s game against Houston in December. He took a few pointers from the Gonzaga game a week after that. But he kept coming back to Alabama’s February game against Tennessee, a rock fight the Volunteers eventually won. Rick Barnes’ schemes seemed to align best with things the Aztecs could duplicate. “I mean, Tennessee is really good,’’ Darrion Trammell said with a shrug of his shoulders, “but Alabama hadn’t seen anything like us before.’’"
