Obviously losing Eric, but I heard that everyone of our Offensive Line is coming back and that will be huge for a new QB confidence.

All of our RB's are coming back

Our Secondary will be back

All in all, how do you think we'll fair next year?

What do you think our Preseason Rank will be?

Please, I kind of want this thread to get me all fired up about next year so please don't post your Negativity Comments about the Coaching Staff on this thread. Start your own thread for that.

Thank you

I'm looking forward to next year, I think the team will be solid.

That said, there is still a lot of football to be played this year, and am excited to see how this year turns out. With the year it has been so far, we could just as well end up 0-2, 1-2, 1-1, 2-1, or 3-0.

I don't know about firing you up, Im still fired up about the current season, but anyhow, IMO we should be pretty darn good next year, and the following year. We are really a young team right now. I have to think we will actually be better at QB, certainly at WR, O line should be great, RB should be great. On defense not losing much except for Heffney, but he hasn't been the playmaker this year we all thought he would. We have to get better on the D line.

The best thing is, we go to Lexington This Saturday with a chance to play for a shot at the Conference championship.

next year's schedule isn't very easy though... road trips to UCLA, Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina and Fulmer has to find a way to beat Meyer and Saban at home. That will not be an easy road.

I think there is a good chance that we'll return to the power run team we were in years past, anchored by our O-line and depth at RB, and a return to using FBs more (to block). We'll likely throw quite a bit less with a green QB at the helm. The big question on D will continue to be the D line. The DTs look to be solid, but ends are a concern of mine. LBs and DBs should be pretty reliable. Special teams should actually be a strength (wow).

If we do establish a power run game and the D-line is a strength... this team could look somewhat like the 2001 team.

The other key will be getting leadership from some of our players.

I'd guess pre season rank will be about 15th or so.

SS Berry, Faison

K- Lincoln
P- Colquitt

This list will change as the goes on and when we start getting commits.
Someone who sees the team practice can make a more accurate list but as of now this team looks good enough to bring home a SECC.

Ayers doesn't start at DE? And, Donald has a lot of ground to make up to get ahead of E. Wilson and A. Myers-White.

If Donald is gonna be at LB, it'll be at MLB, not outside. Ellix Wilson will be ahead of him on the depth chart anyways.

I heard Jim Donnan on 680 The Fan in Atlanta this week say that there will be 3 SEC East teams in the preseason top 10 next year.....UF, UGA and UT.

Being from the Chattanooga area I am really high on Coleman. However, I think Crompton will be the man next year with his running ability as well as passing. It will give or offense a toatally different look with a good running QB. Also, the ability to go 5 wide and still have a running threat if no one is open. I am looking forward to seeing a QB in orange that is not a sitting duck and or having to throw it away if nothing is open.

i was wondering if Donald's name would be mentioned... i haven't heard a THING about him? and how has Ben Martin been doing? just wondering

I think Jones will be our number one threat at receiver next year. at least i hope he tears it up.

wait, this might be stupid, but does that say morley at safety?

In addition to replacing a QB who has effectively been a 3 year starter, there will still be no deep threat WR and probably no All-SEC caliber running back. Replacing a few decent, experienced guys on defense with some younger, perhaps more talented guys I think the defense will be about the same as far as statistics go. Basically, I think the offense will have a little drop off (particularly early on) and the defense will be about the same.

UF and UGA will both be better than what we saw this year and with Auburn on the schedule I'm thinking a 5-3 SEC record is about the best we can expect. 2007 was the year UGA and UF were going to be reloading or rebuilding, it should roll back around in 2010 if UTK can maintain Top 10 recruiting classes. Glad the Vols have capitalized on it this year.

I use to not be a Foster fan, but I am turning. I think he will have a good year next year. This year UT started 3 new WRs and had good results, next year everyone is back and then Jones, so if Crompton can throw, I think it could amazing with rb/qb/Wr threat. QB can run, so there is a few yards extra if noone is open. If they only had a Brown type TE next year.

Yeah..he's working to get back on the team and alot of people on here are penciling him in as a starter...

I don't like this for a few reasons....

1. As of now he's not on the team so why consider him a starter when he's not even here?

2. IF he can come back...he's had a year off, there will inevitably be some dust he has to shake off

3. I have never been impressed with him...He was the #1 CB coming out of highschool and his first two years at UT were average at best. As a contrast...how has this years #1 CB out of highschool been doing....for those of you who don't know...I'm talking about Berry

We need Cutcliff to treat Crompton like Tee Martin in '98. Don't ask him to do too much, use his feet when necessary and rely on the RBs.

Preseason rankings are hard to judge. However, if the Vols win their bowl game, they are usually ranked in the top 10. If they win the SEC and the bowl game, pencil them in for a top 5 preseason ranking. A bowl loss would equate 15th or lower in the preseason.

I think that is exactly what we will see next year if Crompton does win the job. And I think they can be very successful with that next season.

We have a number of deep threat possibilities on the team. Before next season, they have a lot of time to get in the mix and start doing the little things they are suppose to be doing.

No All-SEC caliber RB? Agree to disagree on this point. Foster has been at that level this year. Hardesty has looked like he has that potential when he is healthy. And, Creer looks like he is destined to be All-SEC before he leaves campus. Oh yeah, and our 5 best run blocking OL are all back.

I don't think the 08 team will resemble the 98 team very much. Our D would need to improve greatly to even get close. Not to mention the WR, RB's, etc.
