Give credit to Butch and staff

Ole Miss had only one more regular season win this year than we did. And they went 2-10 the year before. They have a top 5 class.

You don't have to win big right out of the gate to get recruits. You can't win in this league anyway without loads of talent. You just have to create enough excitement that convinces recruits that the wins will come down the road if they sign with you.

Ole miss class last year ranked 40th......

The failures of this class may be attributable to Dooley, but this is a results-oriented business. No one gets a trophy for trying hard.

Starting tomorrow, all recruiting successes and failures are on Butch Jones.

This. Get after it CBJ.

I wish people would stop comparing UT's results with a dirty program. Freeze is a literate Ed O

Oh, I give 'em credit alright. They freakin' shocked the world on signing day, just like they advertised.

They shocked us all with how unbelievably pathetic they are. With the exception of North, they freakin' whiffed on every single big name highly rated (4 or 5 star) player they were targeting. You might could understand Lawson, Bellamy, Levenberry, and Ford, but hell, they couldn't even get a kid like Bell, who was a Tennessee fan from 2 hrs down the road to come here. Sorry, but that just simply sucks, PERIOD !!!

Yep, they get credit, credit for sucking at recruiting.

And don't use the excuse of being a newly hired staff. That excuse don't fly, because there are plenty of newly hired staffs, that do really good in recruiting. Just look at Auburn's class, and they only won 2 games last year.

Ok name some more please. I imagine you'll try to say Sanders and maybe that borderline 4 star ATH we picked up. Watch these guys, w/o orange tinted glasses if you're capable, then compare them to the ones the rest of the SEC is bringing in. There's little reason for optimism right now.

Also, according to Rivals Carr never even received an offer from Bama BTW

Ok, if you say so :hi:

Nkemdiche isn't the only 5 star they signed.

I know it isn't, but it certainly doesn't hurt with other recruits when you get the top rated player in the country on board (mainly because of his brother). Give Houston Nutt credit :) haha

@2013morristownpeeweegiants PeeWeeGiants

There has been speculation of a local game setup between this years recruiting class and The Pee Wee Giants. While Hubbs has yet to confirm, the giants feel they have better size and speed.

It ain't nonsense its fact !!! Everything I said was true.

Except for North, we whiffed on every single highly rated kid we went after, not counting those that were already committed prior to the coaching change. That is FACT !

Also, it is a fact, that other teams with first year coaching staffs have recruited great in the past, including Auburn this year.

The only nonsense are you idiots that blindly support losers, and this coach is a recruiting loser.

your definition of fact doesn't seem to match the rest of the world's

Auburn's new staff walked in with a top-10 class already committed

Bell's family said that Dooley ruined any shot UT had with him

also, who was Josh Dobbs committed to before NSD?

This.
Worst class I've seen at UT. I just hope they can coach better than they can recruit.

I appreciate every single kid who committed to UT and know they will give their all for our program, but this is a very disappointing day. To see kids flocking to other schools who are essentially stockpilling talent, knowing they will be third or fourth on the depth chart instead of coming to Tennessee to compete for a starting position imediately is disturbing. Something is profoundly wrong with this situation and I can't figure out what it is. The coaching turnover is obviously a major issue, but something else is going on.

It's called wins and losses.
GO VOLS!

I'll give you credit for being a complete dumbass. Hard for me to understand how people like you can't see the big picture. How about you go cheer for auburn since you're so enamored with their class.

I agree with not ripping the staff, but I don't think we should heap on the praise, either. It was a disappointing class, with huge misses where it counted. When you finish 10th in the SEC behind Vandy-- and way behind your rivals-- it's safe to say expectations were not met. If we're content to be below average in the SEC, then today was a success; if we hoped to close the gap with our rivals and close with a Top 15 class, it was not.

Gotta say I wasn't expecting to completely strike out today (minus Dobbs) & I'm pretty sure hardly anyone really was. It hurts, not even gonna lie. I feel like I've been kicked in the nuts.

However, as easy as it is to be upset right now people need to realize what this staff actually accomplished. Before they got here we weren't even in the mix for a number of these guys (Lawson, Bell, Levenberry, Johnson, Dobbs, Miller, Brown, Bellamy, Boyd Gibson, Ford ect). It sucks to finish second but they deserve a lot of credit for at least giving us a chance & for getting the kids that we did get. This is a good class considering the circumstances.

So please try to hold off on ripping the coaches & the recruits that didn't chose UT. If this staff can actually coach up the Vols that we do have (and I believe they will) the big-time recruits will come. They just need to see improvement & I can't blame them. Did Saban pull in a top 10 class his first month on the job? Did Hugh Freeze?

Everyone just calm down. If you can't see the positive changes & buzz this staff has created you're blind. These coaches & players need ALL of our support. They can't do it without us.

If he coaches as hard and well as he recruits, we'll be playing first fiddle instead of second fiddle with quality of guys you named. It seems like there have been SO many kids over the last 4 years that have wanted to sign with us, but were leery of coaching ability, and not a damn person can blame them for that.

Next year, with the in state talent we have and legacy strings we can pull, we ought to have a top 10 class next year if he coaches these guys up and gets some wins.
