Getting to six wins on the regular season would be a coup for Pruitt

Looking at our schedule, it is tough to see us getting to six wins this season. I really thought we needed to beat WVU to have a shot at getting seven and that clearly did not happen. I am hoping that we can take major strides throughout the season, but Vandy looks like it may be a tough game with how it handled MTSU. Missouri has a QB who many scouts grade ahead of Will Grier. Kentucky figures to be a pretty good team as well. Given three wins from UTEP, ETSU, and Charlotte are wins, but beyond that, nothing is a given. I really like Pruitt, but I have seen a ton of this: "if we don't get to six wins, then we might need to look for a new coach come year three." We can not have that mentality in year 1. Pruitt was dealt a tough hand. Let it play out. At least give him two years before we even start talking about him being on the hot seat. That is, unless he goes 3-9 haha. End of the day, I just want UT fans behind this program, we have a long season ahead and I think Pruitt is the one to turn it around. Keep the faith, even though we all have battered wife syndrome.

I predicted 6-6 before the season. As I look at the schedule and how the rest of the conference looks, I think 4-8 now. Beat the three cupcakes, and I think we'll beat one of Vandy and UK. I cant find more probable wins than that. 3-9 definitely is not out of the question, as Vandy and UK will be favoured in both those games.

6 or more is still possible...

You have 3 remaining NC games that should be wins. UT should be slightly favored against UK and Vandy. If you get those 5, then all you need is to beat UF or Mizzou at home or beat USC on the road to get to 6. As awful as we were last year, we were a dropped pass away from beating USC and goal-line choke job/last play choke job away from beating UF......

I figured 5-7. I'm too much of a Pollyanna sunshine pumper to assume losses to KY and VU but this Pruitt guy is helping me come back down to earth.

2 years until we talk about him being on the hot seat? Ummmm....no. Pruitt inherited this s&@t show and our talent level is so low right now it’s ridiculous. We need stability and credibility brought back to UT. We have officially become the laughing stock of the SEC, and pretty much the entire college football world (especially after that cluster f of a coaching search). Pruitt can get the job done, but I can guarantee you it ain’t gonna happen in 2 years. Thanks to our last 2 wannabe coaches and crappy ADs, we are in a deep dark hole. We will climb out....but not by canning Pruitt after 2-3 years or talking about anybody being on the “hot seat”. Let the man do his job and leave him alone. Sit back....relax.....and support the team and the staff. They need it.

An interesting stat on Lock I read was that last season against teams with winning records his completion % was only 52% and his TD/INT ratio was 11/7. So his stats were greatly inflated against bad teams.

The bad news of course, is that we were one of those bad teams that he inflated his stats against, and will likely not have a winning record going into that game.

For the record I'm with you, really talking to the more extreme fans that are already talking about how he might not be the guy for the job

I think we will greatly improve each week, so by the time we play Vandy or Ky., we will a much better team. I am sure that we get 5 wins but getting the 6th win will be difficult.

The best thing Pruitt has going for him is Fulmer. Fulmer knows what it takes to win. He knows what talent looks like and he knows what practice habits it takes to win. He will watch games/practice/players and decide when it is time for a new coach. I trust Fulmer, he is a championship coach and a learning AD but he BLEEDS ORANGE and WHITE and that is enough for me.

3-should be winners

2-very possible (UK, Vandy)

3-possibles (USC, Mizzou, UF)

1-if the stars align/rivalry (UGA)

6-6 is very possible. We just have to stay healthy and take care of business.

That was last year! Just because we barely lost those games last year doesn' t mean we will fare better this year. Our talent is different this year! Florida's coaching staff is different!

What Fulmer doesnt know though is what it takes to resurrect a program as he inherited a pretty successful one.

Of course CJP hasnt worked with less than stellar talent either.....sooo we may be screwed. .again.

Why do these "oh crap how are we getting to 6 wins" post keep coming up?

It's real easy to see if you just freaking look! Florida is winnable for sure. They are no better than us or last year. We've Butch Jones lost to them 3-4 yrs. We should be on a 4 game winning streak with them.
USC jr. has no where the talent based on recruiting rankings and we lost to them on the last play last yr with no offensive line and JG's 1st start. Dormady plays in that game we win.
Vandy and Kentucky both suck and we should be them every year. Are you 10 yrs old. You realize these 2 have combined for 7 wins total since 1983 against UT, right? 35 yrs we are 70-7 against them both.
ETSU, Charlotte, UTEP

There's 7 without really trying hard to find 7 wins.

We've got Missouri at home. Who knows what they will look like by November.

So stop with this crap. Last year is gone. The 1 time in 121 yrs of football that UT failed to win 5 games in a season! ONCE!

Good grief! We got beat by a really good and underrated WVU team. Grier if he stays healthy should win the heisman. Dude can spin the rock!

Really annoyed with everyone’s pessimistic attitude. It’s a forgone conclusion that we’re gonna lose to KY, and Vandy I guess. Why even watch then? Smh let it play out

I stuck to my word. I refused to predict wins/loses until I saw the product on the field, although my heart was optimistic we were much improved defensively. Based on what I saw last Saturday my opinion is at the very best with improvements and Pruitt being coach of the year, this team wins 6. A good or solid season for this team will be 5 wins. We easily could be a 4 win team and we will have underperformed if we only come up with 3 wins. I hope we win them all that are left and will be pulling we do, but reality bites.

If we somehow find a way to beat Florida, which I don’t see, then yeah, I might agree that we can possibly find a way to 6 wins, although not likely. Other than Charlotte and the next 2 games, there just aren’t any likely wins on the roster. Maybe Kentucky?
