I don't mind paying the players. But I do think there should be guardrails of some kind to protect both parties. Some of these guys aren't going to get what they thought they were worth on the open market.

Simple solution.

Stop going to games or watch something else.

It’s not going away.

This. Put up or shut up.

I get frustration and all but the people whining about the state of college sports are becoming about as annoying as the state of college sports.

Stop watching if you don't like it. Or better yet, just stick to FCS and below.

Since
Amari Evans just hit the portal and I am tired of all the year to year roster changes. NIL is ruining college sports and something needs to be done.

Maybe if we stop going to the games maybe our voices would be heard and stop this mess
Since college athletes now seek to maximum their earnings on a year to year basis, why don't the rest of of us in our work society do the same? All the nurses can enter the portal every year and let the hospitals, nursing homes, etc. all bid on who gets who! Similarly, all the teachers, all the engineers, all the technicians, etc., etc., all enter the portal for their discipline as well. This may cause an extreme disruption of our society/economy, but we just reply by saying, "hey, we're just trying to maximize our income like everyone else." What do you think?

Pay the players they said

Your name says you’re a dad but there is no way you’re taking issue with the current system of things while also being a parent who wants to look out for their kids.

There is nothing wrong with players getting paid. For some, this is their only chance to make money playing the sport that gets them into college. No sane person would tell their kid to stay at a school out of fandom while getting paid if some random school across the country was willing to double their pay.

It’s the PGA TOUR vs LIV Golf debate all over again.

It's out of hand, but if the rumors are true, it's smart business moves. It's rumored that Carey wanted $3 mil.. To do what? Miss 2 foot layups and go 1 for 2 at the free throw line? Amari Evans wanted $2 mil... He COULD earn that but not after only being a bench player averaging 4.1 ppg. JP and Cade are injury prone. JP also has had issues not finishing at the rim. Don't get me wrong, it sucks and college athletics should start a CBA and/or contracts but these players do not deserve what they are asking for what they are actually producing on the court.

We are literally living in the golden age of UT basketball and three straight portal guys have been our best player. I'm absolutely loving it!

I personally hate this era of the Wild West in CBB, but you make an outstanding point 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Barnes has adapted quite well. He never had a three year run at Texas in the old system like he’s in the mist of here. Closest he got was a FF bookended by two Sweet Sixteens.

Here’s the problem. You’d have to think that all those guys best basketball is ahead of them. Boswell, Evans, Phillips, Carey and Estrella. If each of those guys improves 20%, then you’ve lost. I’m not saying you can’t sign more proven guys, but Barnes’ system is more culture than it is X’s and O’s.

Boswell has already made a jump. I’d expect Evans to do as much. A healthy Phillips and Estrella. If Carey drops 20 pounds? I hope Barnes knows what he’s doing. This is uncharted waters.

Then explain Barnes success when guys like Awaka, Aidoo, Carr, Edwards, and Delione all left and have been productive at their new schools yet TN made three straight EEs?

And yes, I am on record saying I wish Awaka and Carr had stayed with a belief we’d been better with them. That said, I sure as heck can’t complain with overall results of the season Including the tournament.

The charade is over and players in revenue sports, maybe every sport, need to be employees under contract. There will still be P5 transfers, freshmen getting $800k with a "low" buyout who become second team all-conference and have new opportunities. You won't be able to prevent volatility at mid-majors and low-majors because the lower compensation begets a lower buyout and they'll have greener pastures for more money or effectively lateral moves. It's definitely not a perfect solution, but it will stabilize roster churn to a degree.

Many fans feel that it's more about the name on the jersey than the players themselves, and I agree, but having a totally new cast of characters year over year is just nuts.

Unless the rules change my prediction is in the not to distant future a player will make more from NIL than he would as a rookie in the NBA. Might happen in football too.

Ament should stay and let CRB be his G League mentor during his sophomore season. He needs body development before making the transition. I can at least have hope!

This is what you get when people kept whining players should get a piece of the pie. And there’s gonna be ones say well the university makes millions off of these athletes. Those millions are used to upgrade facilities for athletes, students and yes fans. Now that universities have to spend $25-$30 million (guessing) more dollars on athletes. But then complain about ticket prices going up. This is exactly what you get.
They both make all their money from fans. We’re just sick enough or addicted enough to pay what we pay

A lot of these players over estimate their NIL value
And many in the portal will make less than the school he left. VFL Ramon Foster discussed this morning.

The players’ agents over promise hoping to get a piece of the pie. By the time they get an offer, the team he left has moved on.

What about my post would require me to explain this?

A players union is inevitable and that's a whole other layer of not good imo. Now you have to decide who is going to negotiate for the schools. Do we really want NCAA in that role?

If UT has a good team next year, I will enjoy and celebrate. I've always felt connected to the players, like they were family. Those days are over, and I really just don't care anymore. But if we're good, I'll smile and enjoy,
