Get to know West Virginia

I enjoyed the article. Well written and insightful.

Found the writer's closing line a bit ironic:

Because of depth and this ridiculous schedule, there might not be a more mysterious team in the country than WVU. Theoretically, 3-9 and 10-2 are on the table.

If there is a more mysterious team in the country, its name is Tennessee. WVa's 3-9 to 10-2 range are matched by our 3-9 to 9-3 possibilities.*

* Lately, have modified our 3-9 worst case to 5-7, based on CJP & Co. shoring up the roster with transfers and last-minute recruits. Then again, I don't really believe WVa could end up 3-9, either. Thinking their most likely range is 5-7 to 8-4.

WV 's success is riding on their QB and receiving corp.

Their defense is gonna be what hurts them, their schedule and they had turnover problems on offense. They averaged over a turnover more per game than what they caused defensively. They averaged 460 yards on offense per game and gave up 446 a game on Defense. Also #50 SOS. They are very average running the ballTheir offense wasn't near as potent when they played the better and more physical Defense's. They were #22 in scoring offense and #90 in scoring defense.

They padded their stats vs the horrible teams and Defense's on their schedule.

W-56 pts vs 3-9 E.Car #130 scoring Def
W-59 pts vs Delaware St a Div 2 team
W-56 pts vs 1-11 Kansas #129 Scoring D W-46pts vs 6-7 Tex Tech #100 scoring D
W-38 pts vs 1-11 Baylor #114 scoring D
L 39 pts vs 10-3 Ok St #85 scoring D

Against the #85,#114,#100,#129,#130 score Def they avg 49 PPG..I'm not going to count their games Grier didn't start or play in.

Against the #4 Score Def V.Tech they scored 24 and L, #16 score Def TCU they scored 24, #26 score Def Iowa St they scored 20, and #30 score Def Texas they scored 14. So versus 4 top 30 and 1 top 50 they averaged 22 PPG.

While they have a good passing offense, it's very misleading when you really look at each game. They are not a top #25 team or even an 8 win team if those trends continue this yr. Just a different perspective on our 1st opponent.

Yeah I could see this game potentially getting ugly. WVU probably won't be world beaters this year because of a lack of depth, but we'll get them at their healthiest.

Only way I see us having a chance is if we can really get the run game going, slow the game down, and limit their opportunities on offense.

I saw this article and though I'd share. WV seems to not have much proven depth and it appears as of now that their defense will be sub-par again. If Tenn can shorten the game and keep it close going into the 4th qtr we might have a shot. Need to avoid getting into a shoot out with them.

West Virginia football 2018 preview: Star power and what else? - SBNation.com

WVu star power? They have 8 4star players total and 0 5stars on their entire roster. We have 30+ 4s and I believe 5 or 6 5stars. They have little to no depth across either side of the ball especially defense and that's what killed them last season. I don't see the big deal about WVu.

I don't either. I posted some stuff on them in this post that further proves this. Shows how misleading stats can be unless you look at every game individually. Mizzou is another example. They went 7-6 and not a single win vs a bowl eligible team. For the life of me I don't get the W.Va hype on here. No way should be lose that game.

From what I've read most expect a 7-5 season for them a few as high as 9-3. If our Vols play even close to their potential, mature on turnovers both ways, control the line of scrimmage, tackle fundamentally well a win is not unrealistic at all.

My grandma threw for 6,000 yards in the Big12. How'd they look against Utah, or any of the other teams with D1 players? They're not very good, and neither are we. Should be a fun game.

Espn projects them at 6.4-5.7 win loss record and us at 5.8-6.2. They don't think they are much better than us..

Well, Pruitt is a DB coach.

If last years secondary shows up, they might quite possibly break records.

With Warrior and TKjr coming back safety should be a position of strength... assuming we keep Abernathy from playing at the end of games. Now corners are a different story....
