Get Ready Boys....it's coming....

The 24 team playoff is coming within 2-3 seasons and they are going back to the old method of conference champs (no title game, just 2-3 way ties). This is likely going to be voted on in the next week or two.

It's also why UT and others are moving games up a week

Can't wait to see it...no more opt outs in minor bowl games, and Neyland hosting playoff games every other season.

Also be prepared for the SEC (and Big Ten) to decide soon if they are going to 20 teams or 24 team conferences, because I assure you, it's coming too
BUT will players who are clearly out of the playoffs start opting out rather than risk injury if they are going to the combine? We see this even in the pros. (NBA is the worst) Last part of the season there is no effort from losing teams and the money is guaranteed so they don't care. MI is already out this year. Will be interesting to see how they play going forward.

Thrilling.

It’s the issue of college fan bases and conferences being greed that is gonna destroy the passion that the college game is played with… it is what it is.

BTW if 24 team playoff existed in 1998......

Notre Dame at16 Air Force winner vs 1 Tennessee
Miami at 9 Wisconsin winner vs 8 Texas A&M
Oregon at 12 Georgia Tech winner vs 5 Arizona
Texas at 13 Virginia winner vs 4 Kansas State
Penn State at 11 Arkansas winner vs. 6 UCLA
Georgia at 14 Nebraska winner vs 3 Ohio State
Missouri at 10 Tulane winner vs 7 Florida
Syracuse at 15 Michigan winner vs 2 Florida State

This could mean its harder to fire some coaches:
"Look guys, we make the playoffs every year. Sometimes we win a game or 2. Arent yall satisfied?"

No excuse with 24 teams for Heupel not having us in the playoff but with 24 teams is that really a accomplishment?
No it is not an accomplishment at all. That is the issue with this expansion. Coaches will get praised and want bonuses and extensions for being the 24th team in the playoffs.

So, we are imitating the smaller conference - lol.

Seriously, I know there will be mismatches that lead to boring games - but at least the complaints around who is left out and such will stop, because folks are not going to listen to # 25, unless of course #25 is Bama or Texas or Notre Dame or OSU.
No one said we were imitating anyone. Good grief!

The new bogie will be did your team get to at least the quarterfinals. Anything less will be considered a bad season.

For all the talks about NCAA basketball, how many "cinderella midmajors" actually win the title.....HINT none

I'm not even talking about winning a title, just even making a run to the S16, E8 or F4. That happened in March Madness fairly often, but will rarely ever happen again due to the portal.

CFB is a completely different animal - it is all about elite talent and depth of talent. In a 24-team playoff we might see a 20-seed 8-4 P4 team win a game, and once in a blue moon we might see a G6 team win a game, but there will be no "Cinderella" runs, and it will nearly always come down to the top 3-4 teams that have any shot of winning the whole thing.

Yeah, I still want to go back to the BCS or at least the 4 team playoff. I'm in the minority though.

I agree, but just as important would be going back to the 12-team SEC (better yet 10), when winning a conference title really meant something.

I'll return now to that cloud I've been yelling at.

You’ll have 8-4 and maybe some 7-5 teams sneaking in, getting curbed the first round and using that as the marker of a successful season.
Didn't we do a slightly lesser version of this? 10-2 (never would have sniffed the 4 team playoff), got curbed the first round, and used that as a marker of a successful season?

10-2 is substantially better than 8-4 or 7-5 in my opinion. Also, that Ohio State team was probably one of the all time greatest teams. They ended up running through everyone else as well. Unfortunately, the Michigan loss woke the beast and we weren’t ready for what was coming.

But, I would always consider 10-2 to be a successful year for a SEC school. I think four is too little but 20+ is WAY too watered down.
