Any other fans of Teutonic driving pleasure?

I started with a VW Rabbit in the 70's and have been hooked ever since.

No other cars (except for Italian) have the road feel of a German car. Every one I've ever had (VW, Audi, BMW) have it. They all have electrical issues here and there but powertrain and handling are second to none IMHO.

Who has/had one and what did you like best?

Here's the other one I drove today. Not as OMG fast as the M but very sports car-like. The engine literally howls above 5000rpm. I've never heard anything quite like it but it sounds GREAT!

Gotta love the Boxster gauge cluster - tach in the center and a great font for the numerals.

My brother is getting a mark 4 VW GTI for his first car... Lucky bastard. I'm also in that market for a new car... There's a Nissan that I really want out here, but if I don't get that, I'm leaning very heavily towards getting an Audi A4 1.8L turbo. My plan for that if I get one... Take it to a local shop, Futrell Autowerks. I think the suspension on those is great out of the box, so that's good. Then APR carbon fiber air intake, 2.5" exhaust all the way through, then get a Stage III+ turbo system later on.

Basically, a 400+whp Audi A4 within the next year. :)

Drag-racing goodness. All wheel drive = four on the floor, fast starts.

I've driven Beemers and a Porsche, and I have to go with the Porsche..

I sold the boxster last year, and I'm having trouble getting the wife to agree to a 911.

I've had two Audi A4's over the year (both 1.8T's - one sedan, one wagon Avant)

They are very tunable. Nice handling and interior. Quattro drives better than FWD.

Any problems with the Boxster? I'm looking at 01's (S model preferrably) but a little skittish about maintenance and rear main seal issues.

108? This pic is from my Mazda Protege...

The Boxster photo was not mine - I'm not much for top speed unless it's in the right area (track, Autobahn, certain stretches of Interstate).

The photo is from a standard Boxster - tops out around 150, Boxster S has a top end of 165!

No issues, I would definetly go with the S, more horsepower, bigger wheels, brakes, and door speakers..

The maintenance is a breeze with them, they use 9 quarts of Mobil One oil, so routine oil change's are only every 15,000 miles

I know the speakers may not seem like a big issue, but the stereo with the top down you need the door speakers

Man do I miss driving on the Autobahn! You guys would love it. No speed limit on a good portion of it. Once was driving at about 90 mph and a Porche passed me up like I was standing still. Good stuff.

Oh, of course. It's the PNW, AWD is the only way to go. That and I can smoke Honda-driving idiots from the stop light.

I've always dreamt of getting my hands on an RUF-tuned Porsche and driving the Autobahn.

It was always the old farts driving the big MB and Audi sedans that I got out of the left lane for..

I was in a measley BMW 318..
