Are not #1 type receivers. They have frustrated me more than almost anything this year with their play. Injury or not, I expect more mental sharpness from upperclassmen.

G Jones' mental slip ups costed us a lot so far in this young season. I agree with you.

Hard to get on any of the receivers given our QB stable. That said, I thought it was rather poor of Jones to run out of the end zone.

Did we not have enough player bashing threads, Eric?

I'm sorry, I just don't see how you can fault anyone that just went toe to toe with the best team in the nation and just came up short. There are reasons D Moore and G Jones have been absent for the most part this year. They are the same reasons neither of them started. They missed a lot of practice time and that's critical when trying to develop a rhythm with a QB and learn a new offense. Last week's throw over Gerald's head is evidence of that. Crompton threw the ball where Teague would have been. Not Gerald's fault.

You can pick out anybody on this team and say "oh, they did this wrong and they did that wrong" but what's the point? They are still the guys we are stuck with and we should be behind them 100%. And I have a feeling both of the guys mentioned in this thread are going to make plays for us this year.

Gerald not knowing where he was in the endzone cost us tremendously.

Agreed. The fourth down route at the end of the game was very very poorly run.

I feel like crompton should have thrown it when jones broke open to the corner. But jones shouldnt have run out of the end zone. Mistakes from people that shouldnt be making them has been the halmark of this program for 4 or 5 years now. Its gonna take some time to run it out of them I guess.

Yeah as of right now, Teague and Nuke should be our starters until GJ and DM show they are back and ready to be #1s again. But, I have faith in our coaching staff and they know whats best IMO.

No teague and nuke should not start. Hancock and Warren/Teague should start. Idk who Kiff is rotating in for who on wideouts but I would be fine if both Jones and Moore left the rotation. get some more snaps for Rodgers/Nuke/Teague/Warren/Hancock. That's better than Jones and Moore IMO

as it stands now, gerald jones has been one of the more overrated players to come to ut in recent memory. there were nothing but good things said about him coming out of high school and he hasn't even come close to becoming the playermaker that most vol fans thought he would be. just my 2 cents

that being said, he's still got time to impress and in jones' defense he's been in a system the last year or 2 with a qb that seems to target the dirt more than receivers. hopefully he makes some plays for us as the year progresses.

give jones and denaris more game time and they'll get better. crompton has to get the ball to them. be patient people and don't pile on them.

The coaches don't have to bench these two, but they should definitely be giving the younger guys more looks at this point.

TD out of bounds was Crompton's fault. Should not have hesitated

Huh?

Jones should know what's in bounds and what isn't.

This is not intramurals brother, it's the SEC, it's Division-1 football.

He should have sat down in the corner and waited for the ball.

You can fault Crompton on a lot of things, but this isn't one of them.

The receiver still cannot go out of bounds. He wasn't paying attention to where he was. Either way we made mistakes and still hung in four quarters with the champs.

Things like this kill me.

His freshman year he had a bum hammy. Fulmer thought that was enough to redshirt him for the year until Taylor got hurt against Alabama.

They then proceed to come up with a special package for him on offense that averages over 10 yards every time Tennessee runs it.

2008, the offense as a whole sucked. Even then, he had a reception, a return and a carry over 40 yards apiece and had 5 receiving TDs, all while playing in an offense that was miserable. He also missed how many games due to injury? I want to say 2 but it may have been 3.

The Jones is overrated bit blows my mind. He's produced when he's been healthy and given a chance.

like i said, in his defense he was in an inept offense last year and (at the moment) a seemingly 1 dimensional offense this year. he's done some good things for us, yes. but i'm just pointing out that he hasn't been the second coming of all wideouts like people were playing him up to be when he was coming out of high school.

I don't know about starting two true freshmen, they did just come off of injury, hopefully they bounce back against Ohio (If we pass any).

I mentioned that in my post. My point is that they are upperclassmen and should be more mentally prepared and tough.
I'm not really sure why I picked this post out of what I just read to respond to. It's kinda' like a shell and pea game with a pea under every shell. I going to pretend ya'll are kidding and then not look at this post again. Whoever nominated the "We support J Crompton" thread for stupidest of the year just lost the jockeying for the winning nomination contest. Probably the most inane part I read was the "most frustrating thing all year" part of another post. How you can comment on the offense and list that is mind boggling to me
