Georgia track and field athlete undergoes surgery after getting impaled

While running backward sprints, Godwin backed into a stationary javelin that was implanted into the ground, according to a UGA police report. The javelin impaled his back, underneath his left shoulder blade. Georgia track and field associate head coach Don Babbitt told police there was blood coming out of Godwin's mouth.

I heard he's had surgery, is stabilized, and is expected to fully recover.... but good Lord... what a way to make a headline o_O

A fluke for sure. Hope this youngster recovers and goes onto a successful future. That threatened his life.

Hope for a full recovery, but can we use this against UGA? Go to Georgia and get stabbed in the back!

:) - I only joke because it says he'll be okay.

They had him on ATL local news this evening for an interview. He looks and sounds well on his way to recovery. Thing pierced him about a quarter inch away from his heart. Said it was not all that painful, he thought he had just bumped up against it, until he tried to rise and felt the full weight of the javelin.

Javelin is illegal in HS in like 35 states, but not in Utah. I threw a couple years. It was fun.
