It's Georgia week. Which means we have to think about those dawgs that are the result of such excessive inbreeding that they have started losing brain and bodily function. Refer to examples A & B

In this post I will give my view on this match up and where we stand. (Supplemented with info from Phil Steele's College Football Preview and stats from ESPN and cfbstats.com, recruiting rankings from 247 sports composite)

I will begin with Jacob Eason, the true freshman. Coming out of high school, he was the #5 overall player & #2 pro-style QB. Prior to the season, I was a bit scared of what Jim Chaney could do with him. So far however, he has looked just like a true freshman (albeit talented). Completed about 52% of passes, 780 yds, 5 TDs, 3 INT, 6.3 ypa. 9 sacks against, with 7 in the last 2 games (1 more than Dobbs). His passer rating has significantly decreased every game as well. For the season, his passer rating is 113 ( Dobbs is 142).He also has -23 yds on 11 'carries'. Not a runner.

As long as we can bring the heat with a 4 man rush consistently, we should be able to shut him down. With our #9 heating up, I'm hoping he can get another 2 sacks in this game.

So far he has been passing the ball around to a lot of receivers, but his go-to is apparent in Isaiah Mckenzie (#44 WR in 2014). He has 21 catches for 318 yds (15 ypc) and 4 TDs. Terry Godwin is the 2nd leading receiver, and is likely to be a star in the near future (the #1 ATH & 23rd overall player in the 2015 class) but needs some seasoning.

Everyone knows about the running backs at UGA. They get monsters over there. Their top 3 are averaging 5.4 yards per carry for about 700 yards. Chubb may be out, but they can just call up the next one. (Brian Harrian, their lowest ranked RB and a true freshman, has an impressive 7.1 ypc and 3 TDs). However, they are likely being held back by the...

OL. Phil Steele had them 4th best in the SEC (we were 3rd, HA), but they are clearly underperforming. The game against UNC can be explained by their being the 8th worst rush defense so far this season, and 11th worst last season. Georgia has the 36th rush offense (787 yds, 40 more yards than us), but they should easily be getting 250 yds per game. You could couple this with Kirby choosing not to run the ball that much, but perhaps he doesn't have faith they can consistently run block. They apparently can't pass block well either as they are 100th in FBS in sack percentage and 12th in the SEC (we're 10th). They have also given up 25 TFL (50th most).

Going over to the DL, well, their sack percentage is even worse. They are 118th in the FBS. No one in the SEC is worse, nor is any team worse in TFL. Georgia has 13, making them 120th in FBS. This line appears to be soft. They're 51st in rush yards allowed, but they also haven't really played a good rushing team. They might be able to make our OL look good. A guy to watch out for is Trenton Thompson (#1 overall player in 2015)

Their secondary is ok. They are 78th in passing yards allowed, but are tied for 10th with 6 INTs. But after seeing what Dobbs could do to FL's secondary ( with 2 potential 1st round DBs), I'm not particularly concerned (which isn't to say that Dobbs won't struggle passing). Juwuan Briscoe (CB) and Quincy Mauger (SS) both have 2 picks. (#'s 41 CB and 59 S in 2015 and 2013)

The linebackers have some upperclassmen starters, but a lot of very young depth. Their top 4 have combined for 64 tackles. Pretty good group, but questionable if a starter like Natrez Patrick goes out.

Based on this defense, I can see a big day running. Dobbs should be able to gash them, Hurd can probably power through, and Kamara may be able to outright run past them. Couple that with how well we just saw Dobbs pass on a great secondary and we could have a big day offensively. Defensively, I see this as a similar situation to facing FL. Don't let them pass over the top, don't give them time to pass, and our DL and LB's can take care of the run.

----As a side note, I am surprised at how poorly they have performed relative to their recruiting rankings. They have had the 8th, 5th,8th, 12th, and 8th best recruiting classes the last 5 years (per 247's comp recruiting class rankings). That should have them easily playing for the conference and even the playoff.

There's a lot more that could be said, but I'm tired of typing and anything else is probably superfluous. If you liked this let me know, and I would be happy to do it in the future. If you hate it also let me know, and I'll shut up and listen. Thanks if you read, Go Vols.

Before the season I was more nervous about Georgia than Texas A&M. Georgia has played poorly, and I don't think Kirby will be able to correct them any time soon. They could be dangerous towards the end of the year and next year.
