Georgia looks bad

I would'nt fool yourself into thinking Georgia is beatable. Kirby has CJH figured out since his first year and has dominated CJH. I don't see it changing. I don't like Georgia but facts are facts.
  • 2024: Georgia 31, Tennessee 17
  • 2023: Georgia 38, Tennessee 10
  • 2022: Georgia 27, Tennessee 13
  • 2021: Georgia 41, Tennessee 17
  • 2020: Georgia 44, Tennessee 21
Heupel is due.

Kirby Smart has been good in finding ways to attack Tennessee. Ironically, Georgia attacks our perceived strengths.

In 2022, they went after Hooker and forced him to throw under pressure. He had an off game and our offense sputtered.

In 2024, Georgia went after our defense. While Georgia slowed our offense in the second half, a lot of our issues was our defense's inability to stop the short passing and Georgia holding onto the ball with the conversions. Basically Georgia attacked the defense with short passing and the unit that was the perceived strength (defense line) was made irrelevant on the stat chart.

One challenge with 2025 Tennessee is that it isn't quite clear yet where our strengths and weaknesses are. Even as a fan, I am not sure about this team yet. I think the strength is that they play together well and play with a chip on their shoulder.
Kirby has had far superior talent. His teams have had 12-15 draftees each year the last 4 or 5 years. Not sure Tennessee has had that many in all 4 of Heupel’s years.

Heupel is due.
This might be the time. Who knows, I’m pissed bc GA doesn’t look very good on offense. Either way though, it’s gonna be GA vs TN in Neyland. Makes for a pretty good Saturday!!! You’re right though, Heupel is due. We will see!!! It’s so early, this game is really the first tell for both teams.

I fear we are too beat up and thin on the line of scrimmage - both sides - to beat Georgia.
Heupel is starting to address those areas in recruiting, but I think we are still a year or two away from catching up to the top teams.
The SEC, no matter what innovative offense you bring to this league (Spurrier, Meyer, Heupel) is still a line of scrimmage league.
You have to be very solid there to win championships, like we were with Majors' later teams and Fulmer's teams.

Obviously I'm not a coach and couldn't coach my way out of a paper bag--but sometimes I wonder if the best strategy against a team like Georgia would be to go polar opposite and slow the game down taking 3-4 yard plays and methodical drives. Keeps our defense off the field and their defense on the field. I know that there is a talent differential but it just seems like Kirby has figured out how to exploit the hurry up offense. I still say that if we win this game the defense will win it for us with a turnover score, in fact, that's likely what it will take. I'll be here to happily eat crow if we win.

Love the thought of UGA coming into Knoxville sucking but it won't happen. Their defense is scary good. I'm more worried about our offensive line and establishing the run than I am of their offense. Bobo doesn't seem very interested in taking shots down the field yet and maybe catching Georgia early in the season is the best thing that could happen to end this losing streak. I'm sure being vanilla is part of bobos plans but I dont think he trust his QB to make those decisions. I expect an ugly 13-10 type game.

There’s one thing that makes me have some hope. I don’t trust their QB like past UGA QB’s. We need to force them to beat us running it down our throat. They want to do that a little more this year. I don’t even think they fully trust their QB with the keys quite yet like they have in the past. Hound him all night and force them to beat us on the ground. Funnel them into the strength of our defense. Huge opportunity.

Vols 24- Dawgs 14 my early prediction

Pretty solid. Hard to imagine Bobo having enough confidence in a brand new QB to "open the playbook" in his first road game, at a ranked, rowdy rival with gameday there. Gives me Mark Stoops vibes. Until they trust their QB, Georgia is gonna make the game ugly. Their defense is elite. If we can establish the run and build any decent deficit, no chance their offense is built to come back.

There not that much of a talent difference anymore … gap has closed enough to beat these ankle biters …. This is not the same Georgia team they have had past few season

Their offense isn’t but that defense is still stout. Never have a good feeling going up against UGA but I got a little better feeling this go around. Assuming we won’t have Gibson and highly doubt McCoy will be a go yet. Really hoping DL gets back healthy and Sanders is available.

Kirby going vanilla this week, he is like Fulmer that way. Tennessee just needs to focus on doing what they do. The Loud House is going the rockin the top!!!!! GBO
