Georgia Game Scares Me

look, i don't think GA is garbage or anything. and my main concern is whether or not we see the 2nd half teams against FL and VT or the teams that just "showed up" for Ohio and App.

that said, i just have to believe that the staff and players understand where they are, what lies ahead and now have seen what they can be capable of when they put it together and not press.

just go play and they should be fine.

Agree. It's more about our team than the Bulldogs. I believe we will see 4 quarters of solid football. If not,we can come back on them.

I've been extremely bullish on our team all year, but this Georgia game scares me. The stars are aligning in a bad way that don't make me very confident we'll win.

(1) We're coming off a huge emotional win at home. A lot of times after emotional win, teams will come out flat and just spent.

(2) Georgia is coming off a huge embarrassment of a game where they got steamrolled. Teams with any heart at all usually bounce back pretty strong after such a loss.

(3) It's at Georgia and always a grudge game. We've been raiding their recruiting grounds for years now. Georgia fans *should* be pumped up.

Hopefully I'm wrong. I felt strong enough about the Gator game to lay down $500 on it. This one... I don't know.

Why should I drink the Cool Aid v. Georgia?

If freshmen and sophomores still made up the bulk of our team, your concerns might prove valid. Remember, the Vols are a veteran team now, so all those intangibles you list will make little difference.

Our players are far more likely to simply enjoy their first road trip of the season while concentrating on taking care of business.

I wouldn't call them a veteran team I would say they got put on the field at an early age and we are reaping the benefits in a lot of ways now. But I wouldn't call them old. Add to that we have some depth now so we can afford to sayyyy... through a first time freshman corner on the field who's charged and ready to make plays and sit a guy for next week now.

We'll beat Georgia IMO, not particularly concerned. It's the next two that have me worried. But even then, we'll be playing with house money on our way to the SECCG.

This game kind of reminds me of 2004 when we went down there the week after getting waxed by Auburn, and Georgia had just come off a very exciting/emotional win against LSU. We definitely caught them on the right week.

That being said, There was not a talent/coaching gap then like I think there is now. This is not the steady Eddy on the sidelines for Georgia like it used to be. We have better talent, better coaches, If you need more comfort, go look how much Bob Shoop frustrated Jim Chaney when he had Vanderbilt talent against Tyler Bray and some pretty dang good WR's. WE GON WHIP DEY A$$!!!!

If the Vols can pull off this big and I mean big, SEC road win against Georgia, the sky's the limit.....they will be poised and battle tested for the final run:)

1. the gorilla is off their back. they have no reason not to play loose.
2. match ups are what they are, and most of them favor us, just on that alone, is a reason to have confidence.
3. we've known about this stretch on our schedule for well over a year. if we're overlooking GA, in Athens, then we deserve to lose.
4. we have a ton of kids on the roster from GA, they'll want to win this game.
5. it's freaking GA. no way we're going to treat that as a trap game.

bottom line, the hope GA has is exactly what you described...we come in fat, happy and over confident, and they come out with their hair on fire.

if we just leave it to the football stuff, and we play like we've now seen we're capable of playing, no reason not to think we could/should win this game.

This is HUGE!
These players will want to show out in their home state.
The HEART of a GA VOL will be pumped for this game, it will NOT be denied!

Butch Jones calls the team "an experienced, veteran team". You should too because that's exactly what it is.

no reason to be scared.

Will Georgia be motivated after being embarrased last week and play hard? Yeah

Will Tennessee have a Florida hangover and start slow....again? Yeah.

But, Georgia has a lot of problems. A lot more than I first realized. The Texas A&M game is the game that can lock up the East.

Doubt this happens. I think the Vols come out quick simply based on realizing if they were to get up quick UGA may start doubting themselves and lay down like they did against Ole Miss.
