Gears of War - System Seller or System Killer?

interesting post I found:

For those of you who did not watch Attack of the Show yesterday on G4, upon noting that the Gears of War release date coincides with the PS3 launch, Adam Sessler described Gears of War as not only a "System Seller" as far as the Xbox 360 is concerned, but also a "System Killer" with respect to the PS3. That's quite a bold statement, I thought.

It certainly gave people another reason to look at the 360 while all the PS3s were soldout.

I wouldn't say system killer. Sony is doing that just fine by themselves right now. Still plenty of time though. If they all do well consumers win in the end.

I am excited to see what PS3 will do in the next few years. It looks like they have some great titles coming out but they are behind 360 for now. Gears is definatley a big winner for 360.

Yeah, because it's a year behind. SCEJ/A has been making fantastic in-house games for a long, long time. In addition to most third-party games, many of which will be available on both XBox 360 and PlayStation 3, Sony will also be churning out a large number of exclusive titles.

If it were up to me, I'd scrap the 360 in my house for a PS3, and maybe consider picking one backup for Halo 3. Maybe. If I could get a hold of one for super-cheap.

I am not crapping on the PS3, I know that they are behind from being out a year later. I am sure that they will have some great games- I am glad that by the time I am able to buy that system, it will have dropped in $ so I can have them both. Not a PS hater here, but I do enjoy my 360.

I know about 10 guys who have sold their PS3's and are getting 360's just for Gears of War.

I actually have been playing it somewhat extensively on two friend's 360's. It is a very good game, most likely one of the best shooter games either system will ever see. Although I was not blown away with it. I don't consider myself a hardcore gamer anymore, though... Haven't been for around two years, back when I'd play Halo 2 online or Gran Turismo 4 for like 30 hours a week.

It started working again randomly after a week... I've gotten the red rings of death a time or two since.

I have gotten the Red Rings once in a year, and that was when the power went out while I was playing.
