On tigerdroppings there is a poster claiming thewolverine.com, which is the rivals site for Michigan, has said the Vols and Michigan are going to accept bids to Gator Bowl. I have read articles saying the Gator Bowl wants to take at least one team that is on a winning streak coming in. Also they are concerned Gator fans staying at home so there would be less money for local economy (hotels, restaurants, etc).

Any one else hearing the Vols to the Gator Bowl?

I've been watching college football for years and still don't get how the bowl system works. Does the gator bowl get to pick before the music city? Also, if UT gets multiple bowl offers, can they choose which one to go to? Someone fill me in here...

I don't know about the rumor, but I'm pretty sure I would be going if it happened. It'd be hard to pass that up.

Yes, there is a pecking order. And as long as there is only a one game difference between the two schools record, the bowl can select whichever team they want.

Some have speculated about this. The Gator Bowl would pick before the Music City Bowl, Liberty Bowl and Birmingham Bowl. Wouldn't it make more sense for the Gator Bowl to select Georgia or Miss State if they don't want Florida? I want the VOLS in Nashville its only 60 miles away for me.

Miss St? Maybe. Georgia? No.

I would love having the chance at beating the crap out of Michigan again, but I'm worried about whether we can or not. We have played enough good teams this year that we should be ready for them, I hope. Robinson won't last the whole game against our D.

Auburn-NC game
Arkansas-Sugar
LSU-Cap One
South Carolina-Outback
Miss St-Cotton

This would leave Ga, Ky, Fla, and TN for the Gator, MCB, Liberty, and that Birmingham crap. All these teams are 7-5 or 6-6...within a game of each other. Any of these bowls could select any of these teams. Could happen...

The Chik-fil-A (peach) bowl picks before the gator. And Alabama would still be in the mix.

I wouldn't mind it, Robinson scares me a little though honestly. However, their D is awful and we would score as well.

Looks like Florida could be going to Outback screwing everything up.

DeerPark said that bowls are required to select any team that has a winning record over a team that is at .500. He said it was added to the contract for bowls when the 12th game was added, as you were previously required to have a winning record in order to be bowl eligible.
The 1 game separation is true except for when dealing with the aforementioned scenario (i.e. a 7-5 Florida team must be offered the spot over a 6-6 Tennessee team)
