That seems to say Nico progressed faster than Merk has in the system.

Nico was just way more talented than Merk. He was #1 or #2 qb in the class. That might not translate to the field though.

Our hope at this point is that Merk punches above his weight or that G-Mac can pull off a Hendon Hooker impersonation if needed.

While Nico couldn't stay, what already was seen as a "take a step back" season is now potentially a "take 2 steps back" season.

I saw the rumor that we're reaching out to someone big (don't call it tampering) who isn't in the portal currently. I expect more headlines with UT in them before September.

Merk was a two sport athlete in HS and didn’t camp like most QB’s do but there were people who thought if he had attended camps he could have been a 5 star so maybe he wasn’t as talented as Nico but he is talented enough to be a good SEC QB.

Happy to see this! But I was hoping he’d get a chance to get the starting job at a G5 school with an opening, or even at an FCS program….. hard to see him playing substantial minutes at USF, barring an injury to Byrum Brown. I really wanted to see what Gas Pipe could do as a starter somewhere other than the SEC, somewhere like Western Kentucky.

Regardless, I hope it goes great for him.

I was wanting him back on the hill after Nico. Best to know the system ,some a-hole said he retired from FB. Baller for sure but a risk with the FB.
