Gary Danielson says Guarantano has a bright future

Due to last years performance, we don't exactly become joyful with the prospect that JG will be the starter. We are hoping that the second string q.b. will take the job. Ya know, the 2nd string guy is always the most popular guy.
Remember when we were all calling for Peterman to be the starter? Remember how we were curious as to how McBride would play if he was the starter, rather than JG? Remember how we were curious about Manning when we heard he was doing well in practice. Colquitt, Helton, Stewart.
Don't sat "we". Some of use believe his is the best QB on the team and will play very well. If you don't think so, that is your option, but some of us disagree.

CBS kept Verne and Gary way too long. Verne might be a great person, but those two were aloof and brought no excitement to the game. Verne is an excellent golf announcer but was horrible with football. He frequently called out the wrong names (remember Jalen Raybin-Meeves?). I remember watching games Verne did and he would call out players name on certain plays who hadn’t played in years. Finally, who could forget his obsessive man crush on Tim Tebow.

I am very surprised the SEC didn’t push those two coggers out the door when renewing the contract. They need a former SEC player sitting in the booth at color commentary (please Lord, anyone but David Pollak).

It's kind of hard to get names right when you're plastered;):D

Gary Danielson does not understand humanity well enough to "get" the way momentum can affect a ball game. [note for those who didn't know: Danielson has said many times on air that he does not believe in momentum in sports]

He may be bright in many other ways when it comes to the game of football, but he doesn't get people. So he can't be counted among the best analysts of this game we love.
If there's any sport on the planet where momentum is a factor, it's college football. It's 18-22 year old kids playing in front of 100,000+ people, in some instances.

How you handle momentum swings in a game (because it is going to swing both in your favor and against you, multiple times, in a game) is a separator between a good team and a great team.

Yeah, well put, brother. That's it.

His insistence that momentum does not exist is his most annoying quality.

So, people that dont possess X quality arent qualified authories on football? honestly i enjoy learning about the games. Granted, my background is in radio and TV. I enjoy listening to Jimmy Hyams for same reasons. I know how difficult that can be, to prepare etc.

With that said. There is/was only one king of preparation, Jon Ward.

Most outside observers have said this. We are in good hands the next couple years at qb. Now we need to get some WRs to catch the ball.
It’s a VERY minor detail that requires a response, but “most outside observers” haven’t signed off on JG being our answer for the next two years...that’s you. They’ve weighed in on him being the leader in the race between he and Chryst. I’m sure you know this but you can’t stop yourself from grabbing the bit and dragging all the schoolchildren off the cliff.

Joey Matthews was the starting QB in the 2000 season opener against Southern Mississippi
Disastrous! I remember opining for Casey that off-season. It was unheard of for a true freshman to have the starting spot locked up before the season started, but I advocated him as “special” on the old GV forums. If he doesn’t get that “tired shoulder” (which I feel he never fully recovered from) he had it sewn up. I had no idea that Matthews was so flimsy tho. He’d usually shown well backing up Tee.

When have we heard that kc is doing so well in practice? Maybe, just maybe, jg has taken huge steps over the offseason and he’s the best option at qb for this team

The reason why I hate broadcast announcers is because they tend to make the game about them. They talk too dang much. I wish there was an alternate ( and sync'd) audio broadcast of the stadium radio announcers. They call the game without all of the filler. I like to learn about the players - don't get me wrong. But, I would rather focus on the action instead of all the analysis and references to how they predicted what just happened. I guess that's the penalty for not attending in person.

I hated Verne since the LSU-Tennessee SECCG in 2007 when he said during the broadcast that he wished Georgia was playing in the game instead of Tennessee.

I typically only dislike broadcasters when they are condescending or who are clearly not objective. Mark May and Lou Holtz are two that come to mind. Dan Dakich is a dick and Bill Walton is bat **** crazy on the basketball side.

Dick Vitale is definitely over the top,but he’s a very nice person so It doesn’t bother me when he goes nuts. That’s kind of the way I felt with Verne. I’ve met both of those guys and they were very nice. Tim Brando is also a nice guy, although I don’t always agree with some of his views.
