Just a reminder... If you buy a used game from people, check the disc before you leave the store.

Story:

I got an XBOX360 yesterday and I bought a used copy of Gears of War. I didn't think of checking anything when I left, I kinda trusted them. Anyways, I got home and hooked it all up, put the disc in and... tada! It won't read. I looked at the disc and they had sold me one that had the deep scratches along the edge. This is a case of the "move your 360 while the game is running" syndrome. Now lets see if they try to blame it on me or if they take it back.

BTW - My 360 overheats fairly quickly and it's in an open area, any suggestions on what to do? I'm going to buy the cooler thing that goes on it today when I take the game back.

They have a return policy on those games.

I personally think buying an aftermarket cooler is stupid. MS covers it under the warranty. If it did anything, it would just delay the problems that will arise a bit.

I heard that the cooler actually makes it overheat faster. I may be wrong, but when i was thinking of buying one I looked it up and read reviews. Everyone hated it because it actually made it overheat faster. Weird, but check it out first.

I've heard story of the cooler melting to the 360...

Yeah, I just read that in a review. But I guess there's one that doesn't melt to it and if I keep track of it it shouldn't.

*I bought my 360 refurbished, does anyone know for sure what kind of warranty that comes with? I know I have a 30 day in-store, Gamestop warranty. This is why I want a fan, I'm not sure as to what kind of service I'm going to be able to get. I could, technically, make my own fan, too. I have everything at work to do it.

its the Pelican Pro cooler not the regular one its pretty sweet.

That's the one I'm looking at getting. But I'll take a shot at making my own first...

I'm not a huge gamer so it won't be played for more than 2-3 hours a night, max. I've also got to go back to class starting 8/20, so after that it will probably sit there.

i'd appreciate it if you didn't refer to gamestop employees as "A-Holes". anytime you get a damaged disc, you just bring it back to the store within 7 days w/ the receipt.

don't get a cooler for your 360. the best thing to do is to keep it in a WELL ventilated area and dont leave it on all the time. if you call microsoft cuz your 360 breaks, and you tell them you have a cooler on it, they will treat it as an owner inflicted damage. no free repair.

I knew someone did. But the several people I dealt with when purchasing this stuff the other day were complete a-holes. I know not everyone of them is, though, because I did get a couple of guys that replaced my stuff yesterday that were completely nice, but new.

Back onto the topic at hand now:

I returned the disc and they replaced it, no questions asked (cept for my information all over again). And about my system... I called them about it and luckily they had another used one in stock and they replaced it. The new one works perfectly and I couldn't be happier. I played for a good 6 hours last night without a hitch.

Just fyi, I left my 360 running for two weeks once. Not a problem at all. I was out of town.
