My wife and I are attending our first game in Knoxville on the 23rd for the Marshall game. We will be getting into town Saturday morning.

I wanted to get some recommendations on must sees on gameday. Places to eat, sights, etc.

If this is your first game, you need to make sure you are there for the Vol Walk. You'll probably want to grab a deli at Gus's Good Times (since it is the only deli left on the strip.)

1. Volwalk is a must.
2. There is also a live band that always plays down behind the Krystals of the strip. It is infront of the Best Western (Know it is a hotel). Good music.
3. The Voltalk volks should also be set up broadcasting on the north side of the stadium.
4. You have to go in the bookstore and buy at least $100 worth of stuff. I cannot walk out of there without spending less then that. Happens to me everytime. Of couse I make it up about once every year or two.
5. The strip may be on the downturn but there will be thousands of fans. Great atmosphere. Also a place to raz opposing fans.

You must see the band stop to salute the Hill on the way into the stadium. It is, IMHO, one of the coolest traditions we have.

Hit the strip (Cumberland Ave.) to take in the atmosphere...and beer.

SEE THE BAND!

Volwalk

Vol Navy (between the stadium and Calhoun's on the river)

So after your trip to the hill, how would you answer the question?

Just curious what a first-timer would recommend...

I will definitely post my thoughts after my trip.

Will there be a Volnation contingent there for the Marshall game?

1. Get there early enough to see the vol walk.
2. The bookstore is pretty cool so you might wanna go there.
3. Be there for the kickoff call-in show.
4. You MUST see the band come down and salute the hill. I fully agree with cotton with this being one of our best traditions. It gives me chills everytime.

As for places to eat and such, you might wanna try Mellow Mushroom on the strip if your in a pizza mood. I've heard it's really good.

If you are coming to Knoxville, you have to eat some local fare. Grab yourself a steamed deli or stop by Sawyer's and get some chicken. You can get pizza anywhere and it is usually the same quality anywhere (unless you want to make the trip to Oak Ridge and get some Big Ed's.)

That is what I am looking for. We have mellow mushroom here. I want to experience local fare, things that are traditions on gameday!

Keep 'em coming!

Thanks to all!
