GAME THREAD: Vandy in Knoxville, Sunday, 2 pm EST, ESPN

From Claude:

Only 25 sub events — continuing the trend from LSU (28) of tightening up compared to Oklahoma (42). Final score: Vanderbilt 87, Tennessee 77.

Starting five: Barker/Robertson/MiPauldo/Spearman/Latham — notable that Barker is starting again and Cooper is off the starting unit.

A few things jump out:

  • Q1 still has the platoon structure with two 5-5 swaps, but only 2 this time (vs 4 against Oklahoma)
  • Q2 has two 4-4 swaps — the 8:45 event has a Robertson-out-then-back-in at the same timestamp, likely an ESPN data correction
  • Q3 7:19 has the same issue: MiPauldo out and MiPauldo in at the same clock — another ESPN logging glitch
  • Q4 is all 1-1 and 2-2 subs — 6 events, no big-batch swaps at all. Caldwell rode a tight group down the stretch
  • Vanderbilt barely subbed — only 15 events, almost all 1-1s, with just a single sub in all of Q4

Tennessee 43, Vanderbilt 37 at halftime, lost 77-87. That's now 6 losses this season when scoring 40+ in the first half. Outscored 34-50 in the second half. The pattern just keeps repeating.

Bet Pat is flashing these stares from on high toward more posters than players.

I doubt the players are purposely missing bunnies and committing head scratching turnovers, but our posters are hitting their mark with record setting repetition.
Since you answered the post with the pictures, I had only wanted to post Pat’s pic, not the players, but that’s how it came out. I have never criticized the players this year or last. Would never guess about her stare, but if I did, would guess AD DW might get it, not the posters.

Pat was always a team player and I bet she would do a trend analysis on the entire department before directing her stare. The big 4-5 are important but….. would love to really know her thoughts on this team this year, especially her root cause of issues.

Thanks Retro! To the eye CKC’s subbing did seem less chaotic and frenetic. I still question it though. I guess we would need a complete +- analysis but I feel that we lost ground whenever Mia was subbed. Also, Coop and Barker both had it going but CKC let vandy off the hook by regularly subbing them. We can compare to Blake who played 40 and look quicker and fresher than any LV down the stretch.

This Vandy team would most likely beat our LVs at least 5 times in a row, maybe more....We have #11 to regularly mess things up, and they don't have such a "struggling player" to drag down the offensive effort....

I don’t know, do you? Or are you going to go with the idea that he really got who he wanted? If that is truly the case than Danny has a horrible eye for talent in regards to coaching. According to the poster my response was directed, Tennessee is an 8x national championship program with a history bar none in women’s basketball and great resources and fan support to boot but settles for the HC at Marshall? For real?? And then says it was who Danny wanted in almost every debate on the topic but then says “ADDW picked the person that was “available” on the coaching market?? Caldwell never mentioned that she was searching for another coaching position elsewhere. What coach in their right mind would? Danny made a mistake in this hire and he’ll keep dancing with Kim until someone breaks a leg or music stops.
I'm not the one who said he could have hired someone else, that was you. So who could he have hired?

DW took a risk.. he appears to have missed.

His next moonshot should be to round up a whole passel of solid role players from men's teams and pay them a handsome sum to identify as women.

The entertainment value alone would pack in the crowds. And to see the faces of Mulkey, Staley, and Auriemma....

It's the Age of Aquarius Redux, folks! Embrace the future!

I declare that all games Tennessee plays for the rest of the season should be limited to 20 minutes. Executive order 973.

A lot of data that doesn't mean very much about the outcome of the game. Would rather see a breakdown of scoring efficiency with each lineup. We have poor scoring and defense se with certain lineups. Look at shot selection.ections and defensive play with certain players, especially with # 11 and #33. Look at how many times opposing guards drive the lane and there is no movement by anyone do defend the drver. Look at how many time players pass up wide open shots and the clock ticks down forcing wild uncontrolled shots which have NO chance of GOING IN THE BASKET. Look at the fit and see how many time our bigs are jogging back on defense and the opponent SCORES ON A FAST BREAK. Look at how many times we run a set play and end up with guards under the basket and the bigs out on the circle. There awesome players who play a lot of minutes and cost us because of poor effort. No effort, no play.

Anybody besides Caldwell that was more established in D1. Do you think other established D1 coaches turned down the Tennessee job or were never offered?
I see no names. Some of you think the UT job was desirable a year ago, Wake Up!! It was went Pat retired. We dropped the ball because we had to make the LV Mafia happy. All these years later, not so much.
