Nothing is more fun than whipping the alligators. Well, whipping Bammer, but that's another day....

A 9pm start gives you students(and others) plenty of time to get 'juiced' up for this one. Make some noise kids...

Florida’s back-to-back national-title starters all left Gainesville after last season, leaving a top-seven rotation featuring four freshmen, two sophomores and junior guard Walter Hodge.

In their first seasons of legitimate playing time, Florida sophomore Marreese Speights and freshman Nick Calathes have already established themselves as premier SEC players. Pearl said the 6-foot-10 Speights is “one of our league’s best centers,” and he called the versatile, 6-7 Calathes a “terrific lead guard.”

The Gators have also been surprisingly stiff defensively, allowing just four of their 22 opponents to score their season average. On three occasions, they’ve also had 16 or more offensive rebounds.

Pearl said UT’s success against Florida is “something we should be proud of. But it won’t mean anything (tonight) and doesn’t mean anything unless you continue to be competitive with them.”

“We can’t say we’re one of the big boys until we put some banners in here,” Vols sophomore guard Josh Tabb said. “That’s our goal, to get some banners in here.”

Beat Florida!!!

The numbers would lead one to believe that that 81 number might not be realistic tonight.

Yeah, but you are at home and have the athletes to force a transition game on pretty much anybody. I hope Florida will take a page from Kentucky's book and try to slow the game down, make it half court. But that doesn't come natural to this particular squad. The Gators like to run, too. Difference is that you have faster and more experienced guys doing it.

This could easily be one of those games where both teams run up and down for the first five minutes, flinging up ill-advised 3's, only to find that the score is 8-5 and everyone is winded.

If Florida goes that route, UT can name the score.

This game will be close early, but UT pulls away with a big run late in the first half, keeps up the pressure in the second half and wins by 15-20.

....Seemed an appropriate time to post this reminder of the day Tennessee basketball mattered again.

That was also the first time the Vols took the court through the student section. I was so proud at that moment. Actually got misty eyed. Then we proceeded to thwack the alligators.

A night cemented forever in UT sports lore.

Go Vols, I would love to be at TBA tonight. I know it's a rivalry, and rivalries always scare me, I say we pull it out in the end.
