Keeping it simple, here is a game thread for today!

Another opportunity for a quality win against a quality team. Ole Miss lacks the size and shooting they have had the last few seasons. They are a scrappy group with a lot of heart.

I expect this to be a bit of a dog fight, but if we come to play like we did last time out we should win by 10+.

Tennessee has been one of the top teams in WBB since the start of SEC play despite still having to deal with some setbacks.

During the previous game against Vandy aka candy, Former LVFL was on the call for the “We Back Pat” game and as a game announcer she made a great analysis which is too often overlooked which is Tennessee has 5 players averaging double figures.

At some point, people got to stop acting like this team doesn’t have the talent and depth to win and play with any team in this conference at home and on the road.

Maybe a few changes in the starting lineup would balance out play in the first and second half.
The second half has been where Tennessee has played the best basketball of the season during the 5-1 start in SEC play.
Jewel Spear and Jasmine Powell sealed last weeks victory in the 4th qtr with elite guard play.

Tamari Key has been productive on both ends of the court since the start of SEC play.

Tennessee over Ole Miss. Anyone that represents themselves as a LV fan predicting a loss, is not a LV fan.

For once I'm pretty confident in a win for Our Lady Vols. The only way I see us losing is if we lose the combined turnover and offensive rebounding battle by 10 plus. Ole Miss does not shoot the ball well, and they seem like a good matchup for us. Herhoops has us ranked 32 and Ole Miss 45.

For the one Sunshine Pumper if you think Tennessee blows Ole Miss off the court than you're blind...

I assume you’re disappointed in the losses. Humbling to predict the team to be undefeated to see it go this way.

A few changes would balance the roster production out on both ends of court.. either way if it stays the same the starting five has to start outscoring the opponents in the 1st qtr.

The 5 starters allow on average 19.6 ppg (118 points) and score16 ppg (96 points) in the 1st qtr.

They need to average about 20 ppg in the 1st qtr if this is the starting lineup for the rest of the season, limit the turnovers, and hopefully that’ll drop the opponents scoring some with less scoring chances.
All five starters are averaging double figures.. It can be done

Ole Miss is a team that could score anywhere between 55 and 75 in a game. If we take care of the ball we should win today. The stats say they are probably a plus five in possessions. If that turns out to be the case then we'll need to win the shooting percentage by about five percent the free throw line being even which may or not be. I look for this game to be really close Tennessee 73 Ole MIss 68

Against 6 SEC opponents, Jewel Spear has scored in double figures 4 gms, Sara 3 gms, Kaiya 2 gms, Jasmine 3 gms, TK 1gm, and Rickea 6 gms.

There’s no need for hero ball today.. just take care of the basketball, make winning passes, be confident, show poise, and play as a team.

I’m not taking anything away from Ole Miss but don’t make this game harder than what it should be.. I watched the SEC All Access and I figured that the turnovers were an issue in practice. They are certainly unforced mistakes.. and honestly a reason to lose playing time in games when every possession is important.

I know Kaiya was kind of erratic last game but her performances (both scoring in double figures), playing defense, handling the ball with poise, and making accurate passes against Auburn and Miss State was one of two X-factors for the LVs facing very athletic guards.

Kaiya athleticism will come into play against OM today.

A guard oriented team on the road with our turnover issues. Thats not a great recipe. But I think our size down low with Key and Jackson and whoever else gets minutes down there will be enough to overcome the turnovers

Massey has Ole Miss as the 1-point favorite and Her Hoop Stats has them as the 0.2 point favorite (basically a toss-up). Then again these rating systems don't take into account that we were without Rickea for so much of the season, or that Ole Miss lost KK Deans for the season. I think we can win this but it would borderline be an upset, and certainly a huge win for our tournament resume.

Tennessee guards controlled the game against the last two SEC opponents Miss State and Vandy.

There was a time in the game where I saw the mismatched Jewel Spear had against Vandy starting PG, and said it’s go time.. Jewel had her way in the 4th qtr. Powell had her way in the 4th qtr.

Lets GBO🍊

Thanks volball09
For doing the game thread. And on the day off as well. Not immediately after the previous game.

If we can take care of the ball? That’s been our issue for the last several
Years unfortunately. Hopefully the trend changes today.
